Long Term Polyurethane Catheter Kits
INDICATIONS:
The Long Term MILACATH™ is indicated for venous administration of drugs or fluids, blood sampling, TPN and
blood pressure monitoring. Optional silver zirconium phosphate throughout the catheter body including
the inner and outer surface of the catheter is designed to inhibit bacteria growth without bacterial resistance.
RECOMMENDED INDWELL TIME:
1-30 days indwelling. The catheter is non-kinking and non-thrombogenic.
SELECT FROM THESE FEATURES TO DETERMINE ITEM NUMBER NEEDED ON PAGES 6–9:
1) Insertion Technique - Guidewire Introduction or Peel Away Introduction.
2) Animal Size - Large Animal/Equine or Small Animal/Dogs and Cats.
3) Number of Lumens and Length - Single, Double, Triple or Quad Lumens at various lengths.
4) Catheter Type - Standard or Antimicrobial.
5) Preferred Extensions - Pre-Attached Extension Lines or Non-Attached Extension Lines.
All kits contain: Catheter, scalpel, introducer depending on insertion technique, needle free ports, suture wings,
and gauze. Those that have extensions include clamps.
SMALL ANIMAL KITS include a fenestrated drape and 3-0 nylon suture.
LARGE ANIMAL KITS include a larger introducer and 2-0 nylon suture.
Single Lumen Catheters - Available with preattached or non-attached extension tube. The 14Ga
catheter has a side and distal exit port.

Hold peel away introducer, bevel
up, directly above vein with index
finger firmly placed on top of
stylet. Advance introducer into
vessel far enough to be sure it is
well seated.

remove housing and introducer
needle while holding onto the
guidewire.

Good flashback should be noted
or blood easily drawn into syringe
through stylet. Remove stylet
while stabilizing outer portion of
introducer. Advance long term

Hold catheter hub or extension
set against animal. Grasp blue tabs
with thumb and fore-finger of
both hands. Gently pull up and out
to separate blue tabs.Introducer
should split above the skin.

The catheter will back out of
insertion site an inch or so during
peel away procedure but can be
easily pushed back.
Always hold onto guidewire.

catheter onto guidewire and
advance until guidewire comes
through the catheter hub.
Grasp wire above the catheter
hub. Advance catheter into
vein by holding catheter near
insertion site and pushing into
place. Remove guidewire.
Suture catheter individually at

and across suture groove.

60cc Inflation Device USE: Once a BES has been diagnosed and traditionally balloon-dilated, the B-Tube is placed similarly to a standard esophageal feeding
tube (E-Tube), with some technical differences. The owner performs twice daily balloon dilations at home, in their unsedated pet, using
predetermined air volumes. This tube can also provide supplementation of food, water and medications. While stricture dilation can
be uncomfortable in humans, the initial stricture effacement would occur under the initial anesthetic episode, so subsequent dilations
would not be expected to be associated with discomfort. In between the daily dilation procedures, the balloon would be self-constrained
permitting passage of normal food and liquid boluses. The B-Tube is typically removed approximately 4-6 weeks later, often under general
anesthesia for repeat esophagoscopy to confirm stricture resolutions, it can also be removed in an awake patient.
