Tyzor® 212 - ChemPoint

Tyzor® 212
Organic Zirconate
®
®
DESCRIPTION
Tyzor 212 is a zirconium chelate with ca. 52% active ingredient in 1-propanol solution. Tyzor 212 is
a clear, slightly viscous, yellow liquid which is not affected by freezing and thawing.
FUNCTIONALITY
Tyzor 212 reacts with water by hydrolysis to form a reactive hydroxy zirconium chelate. The chelate
is stable in water for extended periods. The original or hydrated chelate can form bonds with
organic -OH or -COOH groups of many polymeric materials and carbohydrates (e.g. cellulose, starch,
guar and derivatives) and strong gels may be formed by cross-linking. The product can also act as an
adhesion promoter to -OH functionalized surfaces by a similar mechanism.
APPLICATIONS
Oil well fracturing fluids
Tyzor® 212 is an effective crosslinker for dispersions of guar and its
derivatives to form high viscosity aqueous gels used in oil well
®
fracturing applications. Tyzor 212 is typically used in pH 8.5-11 fluids
and is a delayed crosslinking agent that initiates crosslinking above
120º F (49°C).
Inks, Paints & Coatings
Tyzor® 212 crosslinks polymers and binders in both solvent and water
borne coatings and inks. Benefits are increased film strength,
®
adhesion promotion, and rheology control. Tyzor 212 has good
water compatibility and low color generation, and can function well
over a wide range of pH. Surface modification of pigments may also
be achieved.
HOW TO USE
®
®
For crosslinking reactions, Tyzor 212 is typically added to the polymer or binder as the last
ingredient. The time for gel formation depends on the type of polymer, temperature, pH, brine
®
strength, titanate concentration, etc. Tyzor 212 may require temperature curing for activation of its
properties.
