Juni 2007 9:46 09 Eppendorf Micro Test Tubes Principle of operation Eppendorf Micro Test Tubes The Eppendorf test tube is a polypropylene disposable test tube for preparing, mixing, centrifuging, transporting and storing solid and liquid samples and reagents. The area of application is the use by trained specialists in education, routine and research laboratories in the biosciences, industry, hospitals and chemistry. In vivo applications (applications carried out in or on the human body) are not permitted. Eppendorf test tubes have a graduated scale for orientation of the fill level and a writing surface for identification purposes. Safety information 2 – Reagents can cause corrosive burns and other health hazards. Samples can be infective or contain other health hazards. When using toxic, aggressive or radioactive liquids or pathological bacteria, the appropriate national regulations should be observed. Reagents, test tubes contaminated with reagent, and materials used for cleaning or disinfecting must be disposed of in accordance with laboratory regulations. – When transporting and/or storing outside of the laboratory, suitable safety precautions must be made to prevent the material in the container from escaping. – Protect test tubes from falling over: Keep in a tube-rack or test tube holder. – Close the test tube lids before centrifuging. Open lids can be ripped off during centrifuging and damage the centrifuge. When using centrifuges, only use the recommended accessories and observe the operating instructions for the device and the maximum allowable centrifugation capacity. – When using the tubes with devices, only use the recommended accessories and observe the operating instructions for the device. – In exceptional cases (e.g. high reagent vapor pressure) the test tube lids may open at higher temperatures, particularly if the lid has not be properly closed or if the leakage seal has been damaged. – Please observe the maximum fill volume. When opening the tube, liquid in the lid may escape. – The micro test tubes may not be used with liquid nitrogen, as the usage temperature range extends only from -80 °C to +100 °C (see page 3 of "Technical Data"). In addition, the tube lid may spring open during thawing and propel the contents out of the tube when the tubes have previously been frozen in liquid nitrogen. The tube lids may not be submerged into the liquid phase. No liquid nitrogen may penetrate into the tubes. – Only use optically perfect and undamaged test tubes. When closing the tube, do not damage the leakage seal. – When using Eppendorf Biopur® micro test tubes, apply suitable measures to prevent contamination after opening the blister pack, and use the test tube immediately. Please do not use test tubes from damaged blister packs. – After opening the bag of PCR clean micro test tubes, please use suitable measures to prevent contamination. 1B_Reaktionsgef_en.fm Seite 3 Montag, 21. Technical data Safe-Lock micro test tubes: Test tubes with a guaranteed hinged lid clip for additional protection against undesired opening during temperature control processes. Micro Test Tubes 3810X: Standard tubes fulfill high requirements for centrifugal stress and temperature- and chemical stability. They are easy to open and close. Individually blister-packed Safe-Lock micro test tubes, Eppendorf Biopur®: sterile, free of pyrogen, RNase, DNA and ATP. Eppendorf PCR clean: Safe-Lock micro test tubes, free of RNase, DNase, human DNA and PCR inhibitors. Material: Polypropylene, autoclavable (121 °C, 20 min) when opened. Resistance to chemicals: See Application No. 56: The best material for Eppis! In case of doubt please contact Eppendorf Application Support. Centrifugability: Tubes can be centrifuged in a 45°-fixed-angle rotor at 40 °C (sample temperature) for 90 min with aqueous saline solution (density 1.0 g/ml) up to the following RCF: Tube Safe-Lock micro test tubes Safe-Lock micro test tubes Safe-Lock micro test tubes Micro test tubes 3810X Storage: Shelf-life Biopur®: Application temperature: Volume 0.5 ml 1.5 ml 2.0 ml 1.5 ml Standard 30,000 x g 30,000 x g 25,000 x g 30,000 x g Biopur 22,000 x g 22,000 x g 22,000 x g With the use of an air-cooled centrifuge the sample temperature can exceed 40 °C. The centrifugation stability depends on the temperature. The mechanical resilience of the tubes is reduced by the use of organic solvents.
