Offer your customers the pressure-treated wood you

The desirability of
Southern Yellow Pine
• Its natural beauty is still favored
by the majority of homeowners.
• Better grades are readily available
with fewer, smaller knots and
less wane.
• No other wood species accepts
a preservative chemical better
than SYP.
• Its design values and nail holding
power are among the highest for
all softwoods.
• Being renewable and plentiful
makes it an environmentally
responsible choice.
Kiln drying after
treatment adds
value and eliminates

Offer your customers
the pressure-treated
wood you would use
Scientists at the U. S. Forest
Products Laboratory say it is
“vitally important” to use only
lumber that is properly seasoned
(redried to a moisture content
of 19% or less). The benefits of
redried pressure-treated wood
are siginificant:
• Minimizes shrinkage problems
• Cleaner, lighter and easier to
handle
• Stronger and stiffer than its
wet counterpart
• More nail holding power
• Building Code compliant
• Will accept paints, stains or
additional waterproofers
immediately
• Added defense against mold
and mildew

Why buy lumber
that’s kiln dried
after treatment?
You and your customers benefit
from KDAT lumber. When southern
pine is pressure-treated, it is completely saturated with a liquid preservative and water repellent solution.
As the wood dries it can shrink, crack
and warp. While this cannot be totally
eliminated, it can be minimized when
the moisture is removed in a controlled fashion. In our dry kiln, lumber
is properly stickered, restrained, and
exposed to a controlled air flow so the
wood dries evenly and stays flat. Plus,
the wood cell walls become “coated”
with the factory applied water repellent
which will prevent moisture from reentering the lumber. As a result, both
you and your customers get a host of
advantages.
Kiln dried pressure-treated
lumber minimizes most
shrinkage problems.
To ensure maximum satisfaction, lumber
should be dried or “pre-shrunk” before installation. Experience has shown that lumber
dried to 19% moisture content, when used
outdoors, will undergo limited dimensional
changes. Warpage, another result of lumber
shrinkage, is also minimized when the wood
has been properly dried prior to installation.
All lumber shrinks as it dries. The place for
this shrinkage to occur is under controlled
circumstances at the treating plant, not after
wood is installed in a deck or other structure.
Kiln dried pressure-treated
lumber has better nail
holding power.
Nails hold tight and stay tight when driven
into dry pressure-treated lumber. When nails
are driven into lumber that has not been
adequately redried after treatment, the inevitable drying of the wood causes shrinkage,
thus loosening and weakening joints. The U.
S. Bureau of Standards and the U. S. Forest
Products Laboratory report that the loss in
holding power can be as much as 75%.
Kiln dried pressuretreated lumber is
safe, light, clean, and
ready for immediate
use.
Kiln drying pressure-treated
lumber is a practical processing step to reduce the chance
of chemical migration from the
wood. This provides a safe, clean,
and durable building material. Kiln drying after treatment
reduces the weight of the lumber
by removing moisture. This can
cut handling costs and effort for
the supplier and the builder.
Kiln dried lumber can also
be stained or painted
without having
to wait for
the wood
to dry
naturally.
Call-backs: a costly
and time consuming
problem
Most contractors consider call-backs
to be one of their biggest problems.
Returning to a completed job to
handle complaints takes time away
from construction and sales activities. Call-backs require effort, cost
money and are a nuisance. Many
call-backs can be eliminated by
using Wolmanized Outdoor wood
that is kiln dried after treatment.

Appreciate the Difference
The value of Wolmanized wood has been recognized by
contractors and property owners for years. Now it has earned the
Good Housekeeping Seal. Patricia Haegele, senior vice president
and publisher of Good Housekeeping, said,
“...only products that have passed the tests and evaluations of the Good Housekeeping
Institute are eligible to earn the Seal. And Good Housekeeping believes in these products so strongly that we extend our own two-year warranty to replace or refund them if
they prove to be defective. It’s because of this promise consumers choose brands with the
Good Housekeeping Seal over similar products without it... We’re delighted to welcome
Wolmanized lumber into the Seal ‘family’ of consumer products.”
Beside its other qualities, Wolmanized wood covered by the Seal’s promise has a special feature:
a built-in stabilizer. To reduce stress during the periodic wetting and drying of lumber products
exposed to the elements and to help stabilize the wood before construction, Wolmanized Outdoor
wood incorporates our proprietary Stabilyzr additive as part of the treating process.
