Drama Kids Spring Performance “Survival Guide” It’s Show Time! Our focus with our Drama Kids program is teaching life & social skills to help develop confidence, public speaking, communication skills, acting and teamwork, just to name a few. PLEASE read the following guide to our Spring Performances. Thank you DKI parents for supporting the Arts and Drama Kids of Collin County. Where is the Dress Rehearsal and Spring Performance? Frisco Discovery Center / Blackbox Theatre 8004 N. Dallas Parkway (off Tollway & Cotton Gin/Main St. Exit) Does my child have to be at the dress rehearsal? Yes!!! Students must report to their scheduled rehearsal time for their ONE and ONLY dress rehearsal upon the stage. Teachers and students have a VERY limited amount of time to run through the play to ensure proper positioning (blocking), use of props, familiarity with stage space, etc. WHEN is my child’s Dress Rehearsal & Performance? ****Please go to www.dramakids.com/tx5 click on “ABOUT US” click on “LOCAL NEWS” click on “DRAMA KIDS DRESS REHEARSAL& SPRING PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE”. FREE ADMISSION to family & friends to all performances. Can we watch the dress rehearsal? Unfortunately, no family members will be allowed to attend the dress rehearsals. Where should I drop my child off for the rehearsal and the performance? Please bring your child to the lobby area/DKI Check In Table (signs will be posted) Where should I pick my child up AFTER performance? Your child will be escorted to lobby area with a teacher after performance. Please pick up your child in the Lobby of Frisco Discovery Center Blackbox Theatre (students will be with their teacher) (signs will be posted) go to check in table if you need more information or have questions How early should we plan on arriving on performance day? Arrive 20-30 minutes PRIOR to their scheduled dress rehearsal time. However, please note: we WILL NOT open the doors for seating prior to the performance time, as we have scheduled back-to back performances and doors to theatre will be opened at scheduled performance time. Please make this clear to your guests. If they arrive early, please wait in lobby. Thanks! How long will the performance be? The entire performance and awards ceremony will last about 30-45 minutes depending on size of class. Feel free to watch other performances, this gives parents and students a chance to see how the curriculum and expectations advance in our program. Please plan to stay for your child’s ENTIRE performance. When will my child receive their award? Drama Kids awards will be given out on stage right after their end of show curtain call. What about costumes? Parents…….All Drama Kids costumes should cost little to no money to make - old clothing/Halloween costumes, borrowed clothing, thrift stores, dollar stores, party stores are great resources! Parents please provide basic costume suggested on costume list and Drama Kids provides costume accessories (vests, jackets, wigs, hats,etc.) The costumes will be shared by several students, you may purchase your own, but it is certainly not required. What about stage makeup? We have several makeup/facepaint artists to apply character related stage makeup to actors. If your child does not want makeup, they do not have to wear any…It is fine if your child wants parents to do their makeup at home. Where do I return costumes and props provided by Drama Kids after the show? Please return all Drama Kids costumes and props to the Wardrobe & Makeup Room. A Drama Kids teacher will be available to help. Props tables and costume bins will have signs posted backstage. What if my child CAN NOT make the performance? Let’s hope this will not be the case, however, we do realize there may be schedule conflicts. Hopefully, by now you have notified your Drama Kids teacher, so other arrangements can be made and your child’s part can be re-assigned. If not, please do so IMMEDIATELY. Will there be DVDs of my child’s performance available for purchase? A professional videographer will be available at performance if you want a DVD. Will there be a professional photographer? We are thrilled to have professional photographers, at each dress rehearsal. He will take a cast photo of each class and individual “character” photos. We will of course provide costume accessories and/or props as needed. There will be options to buy individual and cast photos after performances. What is the cost of tickets for performances? FREE Admission to all family and friends to any Drama Kids performances you wish to attend. The $20.00 performance fee/per family covers the cost of our venue, awards, costumes accessories, props, makeup, sets, etc. What about Summer Camps information? Summer Camp flyers and (special early registration prices) will be available at check in & out table at the box office/ lobby area. Audience Etiquette: Please NO *Flash photography during the performance, so as not to distract our lovely actors. Please silence cell phones.
