Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, born on August
26, 1910 into a family of financial means,
seemed destined for all the finer things life
had to offer. At the age of 18, she walked
away from a life of comfort and set out
on a journey that would lead to a lifetime
of service through loving and caring for
others in need. While her name may not
be recognized by many, the name Mother
Teresa is a household name and, one I dare
say, every person reading this edition of
the Magnolia Manor Magazine is familiar
with. Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu later became
Mother Teresa, whose name is synonymous
for her love and service to others.
Following the example of Mother Teresa,
Magnolia Manor is a ministry called to
love and serve by providing the best care
possible to each resident entrusted to our
care. Without your steadfast support these
are simply words.
In the pages of this issue we ref lect on
some of the ways and some of the people who
love and serve the residents of Magnolia
Manor. You will see highlights of residents,
staff and volunteers across the organization
enjoying the holidays at various celebrations.
You will read of national recognition we
received for the quality care given to our
residents, recognition that would not be
possible without the many who serve at
Magnolia Manor and have chosen to serve
through their jobs with us. There is a fond
farewell to our retiring Senior Vice President
for Marketing who lent us her servant’s
heart for the past nine years and an exciting
welcome to our new Senior Vice President
for Communications who has committed
to serve our organization through his
expertise in fundraising, marketing and
ministry. Finally, throughout this issue
you will see pictures of those who are
committed to having loving hearts and
servant hands in 2016. In these photos
you will find residents, staff members and
visitors, including one very special visitor,
my three-year-old granddaughter Piper Todd.
In the first few weeks of a new year it is
customary to spend time in reflection and
planning for the year ahead. In February,
the senior leadership of Magnolia Manor
will gather for another strategic planning
session to reflect on where we’ve been and
to make plans for 2016 and beyond. As you
make plans for 2016, I hope you remember
the residents Magnolia Manor serves. Each
of us has a role in assuring Magnolia Manor
delivers the care our residents deserve. We
look forward to 2016 and are committed to
providing the very best care possible to each
resident who calls Magnolia Manor home.

Happy New Year!
The New Year is traditionally the
time when people make resolutions.
Some resolutions are personal,
others are professional. Maybe
you’ve resolved to spend more time
with family, achieve a fitness goal or
to go after that promotion at work.
Whatever your plans and resolutions
are for the coming year, I hope you
will continue to include Magnolia
Manor in those plans.
On our end, Magnolia Manor is
making plans and resolutions of our
own in order to always be prepared
to best serve our residents, their
families and our supporters. In
February, we will once again go into
strategic planning. We are resolved
to use this time to be intentional
and thoughtful about the future
of Magnolia Manor.
We are also continually resolved to
improve the events and opportunities
you already know and support us
for, like the Mother’s Day offering
and the various events at our
campuses like the Macon Golf
Tournament, Americus 5k and
St. Simon’s Light the Night.
As we step out into 2016, we look
forward to doing so with your
continued support.

Magnolia Manor Presented with Quality Awards
In October 2015, Magnolia Manor was awarded
Quality Initiative Awards from the American Healthcare
Association and National Centers for Assisted Living
(AHCA/NCAL).
The AHCA/NCAL Quality Award Program is a
progressive award program designed to recognize quality
care and performance excellence in long term and assisted
living care. The program sets high standards based
on the nationally recognized Baldridge Performance
Excellence criteria. Facilities qualify to receive these
distinctions by a demonstrated commitment to quality
and by completing a rigorous criteria process that is
reviewed by trained examiners.
Magnolia Manor facilities who received the Bronze
Quality Award in 2015 are Magnolia Manor of St. Simons
Nursing Center, Magnolia Manor of Americus Nursing
Center, Magnolia Manor of Americus Retirement Center
and Magnolia Manor South.
Facilities previously awarded the Bronze Award are
Magnolia Manor of Columbus East Nursing Center,
Magnolia Manor West Nursing Center and Magnolia
Manor of Marion County.
Long Term Care and Assisted Living Facilities may
complete the process for three progressive levels of
awards with each level containing its own distinct
requirements for quality and performance excellence.
To move through each level of the process, a facility must
have been awarded the previous level award within the
previous three years.
In 2016 several Magnolia Manor facilities will apply to
complete the Silver Level Process.
As shared by Hill Fort, Senior Vice President for
Operations “Magnolia Manor is several years ahead of
the national industry on Quality Initiatives. We have
seen significant success already as evidenced by enhanced
teamwork, improved Department of Community Health
annual survey results and increased resident and family
satisfaction (as surveyed twice annually through an
independent third party company). Through excellence
in leadership, better defined goals, advanced education
of staff, high levels of accountability and improved
use of our resources we are working to set the industry
standards in long term care quality.”

A Fond Farewell to Diane Wade
Diane Wade, Senior Vice President
for Marketing, recently retired after
nine years of dedicated service to
Magnolia Manor.
Diane was instrumental in helping
consolidate and stream line our
marketing opportunities as a multicampus organization. Through her
leadership a consistent message
was developed for use across the
Magnolia Manor organization; she
led the way in initiating a consistent
and professional branding, one
which will continue to be a
foundation to build and grow
upon. Diane is also credited with
implementing our ongoing strategy
for admissions to independent and
assisted living.
Her leadership and talent will
certainly be missed. As Diane moves
into a new phase of life we wish her
the best in all she does.
Welcome, Steve Vinson
We are pleased to announce Mr. Steve Vinson has joined Magnolia Manor as
Senior Vice President for Communications. Along with 11 years as a pastor, Steve
also has over 23 years of experience in Fundraising, Church Relations, Marketing
and Communications, and Administration. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from
the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi and a Masters of Divinity
degree from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Steve and his wife Vicki have been married 31 years and have three grown
children and seven grandchildren. Along with their three biological children, Steve
and Vicki have a daughter from Russia who adopted them as her surrogate parents
when she came to the U.S. from Russia as an exchange student. She now has 2
children whom they consider to be their grandchildren as well.
Vicki is a retired computer programmer and a gifted musician. Along with his work,
Steve enjoys woodworking and flying, receiving his pilot’s license three years ago.
Steve and his wife Vicki have moved to Americus, GA from Tupelo, Mississippi
where he served as the President and CEO of the United Methodist Association. We
are excited about the level of expertise Steve is bringing with him, and look forward
to working with him as Magnolia Manor continues working toward meeting our
goals of providing the highest quality care to all our residents.
I know you will join us in welcoming them to the Magnolia Manor family.
