MAMBO2 GETTING STARTED WITH SIMPLE GUI
VERSION 1.0.1
1.3 General about the Simple-GUI
GUI stands for Graphical User Interface. The Simple-GUI provides you with a nice and
easy to use interface. These characteristics turn MAMBO2 simple into the best possible
mobile phone substitute for people who wish to or have to be reached. It is easily
possible to make a call or emergency call by pressing just few buttons. The Simple-GUI
uses the GPS satellite system to determine your location anywhere in the world and
two-way communication to transmit that information to the chosen recipient via GSM
or time-based tracking via Internet. MAMBO2 with Simple GUI gives you and your loved
ones peace of mind by allowing you to notify them or an Emergency Response Center
of your exact location.
Looking "simple" from the outside, however, the inside of the device is equally efficient
as all other members of the MAMBO2-Family. In connection with the FALCOM-TrackingServer all device data like location, present speed, journal, etc. are on-line available
and graphically represented.
By means of an additional option the MAMBO2 simple concept can be extended with
a Keyfob. This simplifies the handling of the MAMBO2 even more. The result of this is, that
the actual device can be carried in either handbag or rucksack, while the Keyfob –
due to the fact that it is smaller and of less weight – can be carried on a
necklace/band and used as an emergency remote control. In emergency just press
the “SOS” button on the Keyfob to send an alarm SMS or e-mail to a pre-selected
phone number or e-mail address including your current location.
No unnecessary ballast, no extra gadgets, no multi-media “All-Rounder” – All you want
is to be able to make and receive a call, to send an SMS containing your current
location and receive an SMS. And every now and then you receive a SMS with
greetings from holiday makers? For these purposes the MAMBO2 simple has been
designed especially for you.
Functions provided by the MAMBO2:
➢
GSM/GPRS, Battery and GPS status
➢
Emergency call without SIM card inserted
➢
Phonebook - storage for up to 20 phone numbers with images
➢
Display information about the last incoming call, SMS and Message
➢
Confirmation of the last incoming SMS/message
➢
KEYFOB remote control - executing different alarms from MAMBO2
MAMBO2 with the Simple-GUI can be tested by means of Workbench software either
locally via USB/Bluetooth or remotely over Internet using the Trace4You web-based
software from FALCOM.

MAMBO2 GETTING STARTED WITH SIMPLE GUI
VERSION 1.0.1
1.4 Simple-GUI operation overview
The first screen that you see, after turning your MAMBO2 on, is displayed when the unit
completes its power on diagnostics. The screen with FALCOM logo and text “MAMBO2"
is shown until the power on diagnostics complete. Once it has been completed, the
MAMBO2 opens the Info-Screen. This screen informs you about the current state of the
GSM (registered/unregistered), GPRS/TCP (attached/detached), GPS (in-view
satellites) and the battery state of charge. Generally, you navigate the phone book
with the right soft key and dial with the left soft key. To go back to the Info-Screen,
press the 5-way key. When receiving a voice call, SMS or message (M-Box), your
MAMBO2 will ring and vibrate, as well as an incoming call, SMS or message screen is
displayed. If the number is one from the phonebook, then the corresponding name
instead of the number is shown. Your MAMBO stores only the last missed or received
phone number. You can redial or reply only to this phone number. You can only make
calls from the phonebook list or the last missed one. The phonebook is built in the
MAMBO2's memory and can hold up to 20 names with phone numbers and images.
Your MAMBO2 can not read and display the names stored in the SIM phonebook.
Adding a name in the phonebook should be done only locally via Bluetooth, USB or
remotely over the internet. In this GUI there is no keypad screen provided to allow the
user to input and dial different phone numbers. The SMS and message (M-Box, server
related messages) differs from each-other, therefore these will be stored separately
when they are received. An alert beep will inform you when the internal battery goes
low and requires recharging. Emergency call can be dialed without the SIM card being
inserted or the PIN code entered. You can read any message received via SMS or MBox and reply an acknowledge to the sender, but you can not type text messages for
sending out. The acknowledge text can be defined in the configuration settings inside
the device. The SMS or M-Box available in the phone will automatically be cleared
whenever a new SMS or M-Box is respectively received or you shutdown your MAMBO2
via reset button (under the charge cover).
The Fig.1 below provides a sample of views taken from the MAMBO2 running with
Simple GUI. More information on using them and a detailed description for each screen
is available in chapter 1.5.

Reminder
Switch on/off
To switch on press right softkey (device will beep when switched on).
To switch off, either press the left softkey (and then press and hold left softkey for longer than 2
seconds to confirm switch off) or press the reset button (under the cover) to perform a hard shutdown.
Enter PIN
By default, the PIN number in the configuration is set to 1111. Therefore, if you want to keep the default
PIN, then change the PIN code of that SIM card by using another mobile phone before inserting it into the
MAMBO2 device.
If you want to change the default PIN, then start the Workbench software and set the PIN code of that
SIM card in the configuration by sending the following command to the MAMBO2:
$PFAL,Cnf.Set,GSM.PIN=2104
//where 2104 is the PIN code of the used SIM card
Add names in the
phonebook
To add a name in the phonebook use the following configuration locally:
$PFAL,CNF.Set,DISP.PHONE1=+49222222221,"Home",0300
$PFAL,CNF.Set,DISP.PHONE2=+49222222222,"Office",0301
The last command entry (e.g. 0300) loads an image for the phonebook that is already stored in the
firmware by the factory. Table below gives you an overview about the images and the corresponding
identification numbers available in the firmware.
Make a call
To dial a phone number use right softkey, go into the phonebook, then select the name or phone
number and press left softkey.
Answer a call
Press left softkey when your phone rings and a dialog prompts.
End/Eject a call
Press right softkey to end/eject a call.
Read/Delete an SMS
Messages (SMS and M-Box) received but not yet read are indicated by an icon on the middle of the
bottom bar on the Info-screen. If the screen saver is active, press any key to switch it off and then press
down the 5-way key to read it. Each message should be receipted separately. When the device receives
a new call, SMS or message, the prior one is automatically deleted. When a new SMS or M-Box is
received and you shutdown your MAMBO2 without reading it, the SMS/message will automatically be
deleted.
Emergency call
Emergency call can be dialed only when no SIM card is inserted or no PIN code is entered.
To make an emergency call, press the right-soft key, then press the left-soft key and when the Call
icon appears press the left-soft key.
Note: 112 is the GSM international standard emergency access number, that you can dial from your
MAMBO2 anywhere in the world with GSM coverage and you will be automatically connected to that
country’s local emergency number.
