Transportation Services to and from Woodward West
Woodward West provides shuttle services between camp and the locations listed below.
Transportation services are available on the first (Sunday) and last (Saturday) days of all sessions
ONLY—the camp office MUST receive your written travel form (see back) and full payment at least two
weeks prior to arrival to guarantee service. Requests received with less than 2 weeks’ notice cannot be
guaranteed and will be granted on a space-available basis.
BAKERSFIELD TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS:
Bakersfield’s Meadows Field Airport (BFL), Amtrak train or Greyhound Bus are located 60 miles from camp. Fee: $40 one way,
$75 round trip. BFL is serviced by US Airways, United Airlines and Continental Airlines. Sunday arrivals between 8:00 A.M. and 2:00
P.M. Saturday departures any time between 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. Campers are picked up by a staff member wearing a Woodward
West staff shirt and transported via camp vehicle. Bakersfield is much closer to camp than Los Angeles, therefore easier on the kids. The airport is
small and it’s easy for campers to navigate. Further, we are better able to accommodate flight, train, and bus delays.
LOS ANGELES TRANPORTATION OPTIONS:
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is located 120 miles SW of camp. Fee: $150 one way, $250 round trip. LAX is serviced by
all major airlines. Sunday arrivals before 12:00 P.M. ONLY. (pick-ups start at 8:00 a.m.) Saturday departures between 12:00 and 4:00
P.M. ONLY. Transportation is on a Woodward van or commercial bus as occupancy dictates. SUNDAY: Bus leaves airport at 12:00
P.M. Children are collected at respective baggage claim terminals upon arrival by staff members wearing a Woodward West staff shirt
but must wait for last arrival before departing for camp. We suggest you pack a snack or spending money for the bus ride to camp (2 hours); they will
arrive at camp in time for dinner unless there are flight delays in which case meal vouchers are provided for our canteen. Increased restrictions for
unaccompanied minors have made LAX drop-offs and pick-ups sometimes challenging and require extra staff oversight. Delayed departures and arrivals can be
difficult to accommodate. Because of the distance from LAX to the camp, please be aware that we can only make one trip each day—delayed flights mean that
all other campers must wait for the last flight arrival.
Tehachapi Municipal Airport is located nearby for private planes. Amtrak (bus connection) and Greyhound also have Tehachapi
stops. Fee: $20 one way; $30 round trip. Arrive Sunday before 2:00 P.M.; depart Saturday between 12:00 and 3:00 P.M.
Los Angeles Park-n-Ride non-airport pick-ups take place at Park-n-Ride at 11500 Aviation Blvd, LA, 90048 (corner of Imperial and
Aviation, beneath CA-105). Fee: $100 one way, $150 round trip. Sunday pick-up 12:30 P.M. Saturday drop off approx. 10:00 A.M.
Northern California pick ups are in Tracy at the West Valley Mall (3200 N. Naglee Road). Fee: $125 one way; $200 round trip. Meet
across from the food court; Transportation leaves mall on Sunday at 9:00 A.M. and arrives at Mall Saturday at approximately 1:00 P.M.
It is approximately 5 hours from Tracy to Woodward West.
ATTENTION! Bikes MUST be boxed for all flights and Greyhound Bus! This is optional for Amtrak (bring a lock for
un-boxed bikes) No box needed for Tracy/Park&Ride Shuttle. Bikes can also be shipped to the camp office ahead of time
via UPS or Fed Ex. Your local bike shop can assist in assuring that your bike is safely packaged for shipment.
A call tag must be sent through shipper for bike to be returned through these means.
