OTHER COURSE BYE-LAWS
Course Staff:
Members are advised that course staff have been instructed to complete their work around the

As they will only hold up play for a few minutes, in line with good golfing etiquette, no player
should play whilst the course staff are in range of their shot.

Members, guests and visitors are expected to be neatly dressed at all times and must comply with
the Dress Code as shown below.

Please note that bar staff have been advised by Committee not to serve members or visitors who do
not conform to the Club Dress Code.
In order to avoid embarrassing situations arising, Members should ensure that any guests or
visitors they intend inviting to the Club are aware of the Club’s dress standards.
Golf Balls:
The purchase of golf balls from unauthorised persons on or in the vicinity of the course is strictly
prohibited.
Golf Bags:
Golf bags must not be placed on any putting surface.
Incident Report Forms:
It is the responsibility of each Member to complete an incident report form in the event of a golf
ball being hit outside the course boundary or a player being hit or injured by a golf ball. Blank
forms are available in the drawer of the tournament unit in the downstairs Concourse or from the
Office.
Mobile Phones:
The use of mobile phones on the course, practice greens and the bowling green is strictly
prohibited. They may be used, however, in the following situations: (i) by team officials during
inter-club matches, (ii) by medical staff ‘on call’, and (iii) to summon medical assistance in an
emergency. Mobile phones should be switched off when out on the course, practice greens or
bowling green.
Motorised Buggy:
Any golfer wishing to use his/her own motorised buggy should firstly seek permission from the
Men’s or Ladies’ Committees through the General Manager or Professional. In addition, an
insurance certificate will be required to be produced, a copy of which will be retained by the office.
Reserved Bookings:
Members wishing to play outside normal competition days should check with the Professional’s

Professional’s shop. Trolleys should be returned and stored neatly at the designated area. Privately
owned trolleys should not be left around the Concourse entrance door as they will be disposed of.
COURSE POLICY STATEMENT
The decision to open or close the course or to use temporary greens is made on the basis of an
inspection by any of the following: the Course Superintendent, his deputy, Course Officer, Club
Professional or General Manager. These people being involved in the day-to-day management of
the course and knowing the course well, are best placed to make an informed decision on the
potential for damage given the prevailing weather conditions. Further inspections may or may not
be made during the course of the day, by the above personnel, who are the only people authorised to
make course decisions. Their decision is final and will be communicated to the Members present
and a recorded message left on the answering machine.
Members are requested to respect their decision and must only play the course selected by them.
Their decision is made in the interest of preserving the course and main greens in particular from
long term damage and to ensure the playing surfaces will be at their best during the competitive
playing season.
The Club policy in relation to closure of the course due to frost or flooding is as follows:
1.
In the case of mild to medium bouts of frost or moderate flooding, the course or parts of the
course, as appropriate, will be opened using temporary greens.
2
If on a particular day, a Club competition is being played with temporary greens due to frost
or flooding, the temporary greens will remain in play for the remainder of that day.
3.
If on a particular day, temporary greens are in play due to frost or flooding and no
competition is in progress, all or some of the main greens may be opened at the discretion of the
authorised personnel, when the frost has sufficiently thawed out or flooding has receded.
4.
In the case of very severe frost or flooding, the course may be closed at the discretion of the
authorised personnel. In that event, the position will be kept under review by having course
inspections at suitable intervals.
ETIQUETTE
Courtesy on the Course/Slow Play
Players should at all times show courtesy to other golfers and exercise consideration for players
playing behind them. With a view to avoiding slow play, players are required under Rule 6-7 of the
Rules of Golf, to play without undue delay. They should also move quickly between shots and
between each green and the next tee. When the play of a hole has been completed, players should
immediately leave the green. Players should endeavour to keep play moving smoothly at all times
On approaching greens, ideally you should leave your caddie cart and clubs on the way to the next
tee so that, after putting, you can retrieve them without obstructing or delaying following players.
Player with the ‘honour’ should drive from the next tee before marking a score card and the player
who holes out first or is out of the hole should tend the flagstick.
A player who thinks his/her ball may be lost or out of bounds should play a provisional ball and
players should take their shots before joining in the search for another player’s ball.
Please remember that it is not always necessary to hole out, particularly when you cannot score in
either stableford or par competitions and by doing so simply holds up play on a busy course.
From starting time a Four-ball should comfortably play a round in less than four hours.
Remember under Rule 6-7 and within the Conditions of Competition, slow play may be penalised if
you continually hold up play.
Behaviour during play
Good behaviour, sportsmanship and fair play should be paramount in every golfer’s thinking.
No one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is
addressing the ball or making a stroke.
Keep your voice down on the course to avoid distracting others on adjoining holes.
Be aware of any noise you make when walking (for instance on gravel), or noise made by your
clubs or caddie cart as you move about.
Before swinging your club, always ensure it is safe to do so.
Do not play your shot until players ahead are out of the likely range of your shot. If in doubt …
wait.
Do your best to see where a fellow player’s ball finishes. You should always watch his/her ball in
flight to assist him/her in finding it, should the ball land off the fairway.
Always be prepared to help a fellow player look for his/her ball.
Avoid stepping on the line of a fellow player’s putt.
While attending the flagstick, ensure that your shadow does not fall across the player’s line of putt.
All players should remain on or around the green until the last putt has dropped before proceeding
to the next tee.
When all players have holed out, the flagstick should be replaced correctly, ensuring that the flag is
left unfurled.
Whether you win, lose or finish all-square, you should shake hands with your fellow players at the
end of your round in a spirit of good sportsmanship and fellowship.
CARE OF THE COURSE
Damage through practice swings
In taking practice swings, players should avoid causing damage to the course, particularly the tees,
by taking divots.
Holes/Footprints in bunkers
Before leaving a bunker, a player should carefully fill up and smooth over all the holes and
footprints made by him/her therein. If no rake is available, do your best to smooth the sand with
your feet and/or club-head. Please leave the bunkers as you would like to find them.
Replace Divots
Through the green, a player should ensure that any turf cut or displaced by him/her is replaced
immediately and pressed down. Divots will knit and grow well in our temperate climate if replaced
immediately and properly. Please use the divot mix supplied to fill divot marks on tee boxes and do
not use the divot mix boxes as rubbish bins.
Damage to Greens
Make an extra effort to repair pitch marks correctly on the greens (See chart overleaf). This is by far
the biggest problem for the course staff in maintaining good greens. Do not just repair your own
mark but repair any others you see and make sure the players you are playing with do likewise. You
should ensure that, when laying the flagstick down on the ground, no damage is done to the green.
While attending the flagstick, avoid standing too close to the hole and make sure it is resting freely
in the cup and that it will not stick when you try to pull it out. Care must be taken in removing and
replacing the flagstick that the lip of the hole is not damaged. The ball should not be removed from
the hole with a golf club or putter.
Protected Areas
The areas beside the greens are very important to the overall standard of the course. It is reasonable
to expect a quality of turf there, second only to the greens. This is not always the case however,
since these same areas are subject to wear and tear, day after day, throughout the year. Some
suggestions are included here in the belief that more members will heed them and that further
improvement in playing conditions will result. Avoid walking and using trolleys on worn areas or
inside the banks and bunkers surrounding the greens. Do not bring trolley carts on to the tees or
greens. Roped off areas and white lines around the approaches to greens are there to preserve the
ground. Please walk the extra few metres around them and not through or over them. Do not play
from temporary greens or tee boxes during off-season. Refer to local rules in Concourse. All course
signs must be complied with.
