Annual event
Naha Dragon Boat Race
Come with us and cheer for your favorite dragon boat to win
the big race! May 5th is the Japanese Holiday to celebrate
children and to give respect to the Gods of the Sea. The
Dragon Boat Race is conducted in hopes of bringing good
luck to the local fishermen. The race involves teams from all
over Okinawa, including teams from all military branches.
Bring something to sit on and don’t forget your sunscreen.
Please bring a chair, yen for purchasing from your favorite
local food booths, or feel free to pack a lunch and snacks.

Lily Festival on Ie Island
The flowers are in bloom and it’s that time of year to enjoy
Ie Island at its best. We will take a short Ferry ride to one of
Okinawa’s closest islands. Also included is a 1 ½ hour island
tour where we will visit some of Ie Island’s local attractions.

a lunch.

Mother’s Day Bullfight

Explore the sea below in the Underwater Observatory and

Churaumi Aquarium Ticket & Transportation
Let us take you to the third largest aquarium in the world!
The mystifying sea universe is revealed right in front of your
eyes. Check out Okinawa’s beautiful seas and treasures,

of intriguing sea creatures. Aquarium entrance fees are
included, but you’ll want to bring yen for lunch and purchases

such as Nakijin Castle Ruins, Pineapple Park (cart ride not

the war as she gives insight on the movements of all sides

Walking Tour with Mr. Hide: A Ryukyu Kingdom Pilgrimage
Step back in time on an Agariumaai (Pilgramige) of the
sacred sites of the ancestors of the Ryukyuan people. Visit
sites where the god, Amamikiyo, descended upon the
Ryukyu Kingdom, site of the former castle for Sho Hashi
(ruler who united the Ryukyu Islands in the 15th century),
site where rice was brought to Okinawa and more! Don’t
forget to wear comfortable walking shoes and yen for lunch
at Café Curucuma.

Butterfly Park
Enjoy a fun-filled time at Butterfly Park where you will see
hundreds of butterflies in a tropical environment. Be sure to
wear bright colors to attract the butterflies and have them

fun at Butterfly Park we will stop by the Pineapple Park for a

Beaches and Beyond: Bibi Beach
Okinawa has so many beaches to explore and enjoy. This
month we will visit Bibi Beach located in Itoman City. Please

Shuri Castle & Shikina-En
Okinawa has a distinct history separate from that of
mainland Japan. Learn about the Sho Dynasty with a visit
to the famous Shuri Castle and Shikina-En. Shuri Castle
has been an UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000 for its
unique fusion of Japanese and Chinese architectural styles.
Shikina- En also UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000
was used to entertain envoys from the emperor or China
during the Ryukyu Kingdom era. Entrance fees are included
but please bring yen for lunch at Jusco and comfortable
shoes. Don’t forget your camera.

Memorial Day Weekend trip to one of Okinawa’s most
beautiful islands. Take a 4 hour ferry ride to Kume Island

on the famous Eef Beach or head out on an optional tour
to Hateno Hama, a sandbar the pops up during low tide.

Itoman Hare Traditional Boat Race If you missed the Naha Dragon Boat Race in May, be sure
to jump on this tour and get a chance to see the Itoman
Hare Traditional Dragon Boat Race. Dragon Boat Racing
was introduced from China in the 14th Century. It is a
fisherman’s festival that takes place to pray for a safe voyage
at sea, and a bountiful harvest of fish.
This is the real thing! Please bring sunscreen, a lawn chair,
and yen for purchases or a picnic lunch.

Blue Indigo Project & Bashofu Weaving Studio Experience an authentic Blue Indigo demonstration with
a chance to make a blue indigo place mat. A visit to the
Bashofu (banana fiber thread) Studio in Ogimi Village may
include seeing a true living natural treasure, Toshiko Taira.
Child price does not include the Blue Indigo project. Please
bring yen for lunch and purchases. Please wear dark or old
clothes as they may get stained by the dye.

Have you ever experienced a traditional Japanese tea

Join us on this tour to explore the uses of several caves in
southern Okinawa during the Battle of Okinawa. Before
heading out to the caves, visit the Okinawa Prefectural
Archives to watch an informational video for the

the Haebaru Army Hospital Cave and Itokazu Cave and
Aburachigama. Please bring or wear a raincoat, non-slip
