educators to found our 9 grade team and build a strong school culture focused on rigorous academics and
developing strength of character.
Founded in 2002, Brooke Charter Schools is a network of three K-8 public charter schools in Boston. Our mission is
to provide an academically rigorous public education to students from the cities of Boston and Chelsea that will
ensure that they are prepared to attend and succeed in college. Named after Senator Edward W. Brooke III, the
first African-American popularly elected to the U.S. Senate, our strategy is to focus relentlessly on developing
excellent teaching. Brooke students (90% Black and Latino and 77% eligible for free or reduced price lunch) are
showing that urban students are capable of achieving at the highest levels, as they produced the highest results in
the state on the 2015 PARCC test.
The Role & Responsibilities
The founding High School Math teacher is responsible for the developing the entire curriculum and delivering all

instruction for all 9 grade Brooke High Scholars (approximately 100 students). In the first year of Brooke High,
there will be one math teacher responsible for the planning and execution of geometry to four heterogeneous
th
sections of Brooke scholars and one course of Algebra 1 [all students had Algebra 1 in 8 grade but some will need
th
th
Algebra support in 9 grade to ensure they are prepared for Algebra 2 in 10 grade].
Each teacher is also responsible for serving as an advisor. Advisors will serve as student mentors, parent
communication liaisons, and college counselors for a small single gender group of students. Advisories will meet
twice daily; each day will begin with a short check in and end with a 25-minute advisory session. Additionally,
advisories will engage in weekly classes designed around college information and character education.
Teachers’ hours are 7:45 – 4:00 daily, with the student academic day running from 8:00 to 2:05 on Mondays and
8:00 to 3:45 on other days. There is also an option to lead an after-school extra-curricular club or coach a sport for

an additional stipend. For the founding year, teacher professional development will begin on July 11 and the
nd
school year is expected to begin on August 22 .
Requirements
 Bachelor’s degree
 Deep content knowledge of geometry and algebra
 Minimum of two years of teaching experience as a classroom teacher (excluding student teaching,
practicum, or international teaching experience)
 Exceptional interpersonal skills with students, parents, and colleagues
 Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
