Page in the register is missing:
In 1526 Sir Robert Underwood was the stipendary priest.
With the Reformation, and the move of authority from Oseney Abbey to the
Bishop of Oxford, vicars became known as ‘Ministers’ and then, after about
1700, ‘Perpetual Curates’.
The record continues to be incomplete for Hook Norton for nearly 200 years, and it is
uncertain whether many of those listed were vicars or simply curates, or whether,
indeed, all temporary curates in charge are named. For many, only a date when they
were in office is known, not their dates of tenure.
In 1540 Sir James Whyt was curate.
The historical authority for the next five names and dates is unknown:
1559
Edwardus Goodman
1576
Radulphus Allen
1593
John Pittam
1597
David Jones
1598
Allen Pittam
1638
Thomas Tounour (date of institution, according to Bishop’s Register)
In 1651 Thomas Browne was minister.
In 1669 Edward Jennings was minister.
