We help young people
get active and give back
using the power of sport.
OUR STORY
Positive Tracks began when the Meyer boys wanted to help their friend, Cam, who had Leukemia. Because Mom had
“mediocre culinary skills,” a bake sale was out of the question. Instead, the two young boys and their Mom helped to
organize a community fun run. Hundreds of families showed up to run for Cam, despite torrential rain that knocked out
power and sound. Positive Tracks was launched that day, sparked by the hopeful determination plastered across
hundreds of young, mud-splattered faces, because Nini Meyer realized that kids, too—kids especially—want to help when
times get tough. Young people are capable of real civic action if given the right tools, incentive and validation — three
ingredients already embedded into charitable athletic events.
WHAT WE DO
•
Positive Tracks is a national, youth-centric nonprofit that empowers ages 23 and under to turn miles of
physical activity into doubled dollars. We award Youth Challenge Grants to carefully selected charities to
match youth fundraising generated through athletic events (we plug into charitable athletic events to double
dollars kids raise), and we help those charities build their youth engagement platform through our turn-key
program.
•
In 2015, our 12 charity partners will host over 200 athletic events in 35 states and 4 countries, boosting under
23 participation and engagement through our Youth Challenge Grants.
•
Our field-tested toolkits and hands-on coordinators teach the joy of philanthropy, open opportunities for
entrepreneurialism, and boost youth fitness.
•
Our spokespeople Patrick Dempsey, Ethan Zohn, Travis Roy, Majka Burhardt, and Cam Marshall excite and
amplify youth power.
THE RESULTS
•
With our help, 39,094 young people will leverage 358,926 event miles to raise $6,183,406 for a dozen
charities by the end of 2015.
Through our Charity Partners, Positive Tracks Youth Challenge Grants are: Changing behaviors to combat
HIV/AIDS; Enhancing the lives of individuals with spinal cord injuries; Advancing marine and educational
science; Creating integrated environmental, adventure and media projects; Improving the health and wellness of injured
military veterans; Giving free support, education, and integrative medicine services to anyone impacted by
cancer; Harnessing the power of play for hundreds of low-income schools in major urban areas; Supporting disabled
young people to participate in a variety of sports; Empowering young lives through wilderness mentoring
opportunities; Delivering low-income high school students with support needed to get into and graduate from
college; Providing advanced pediatric services for children and their families; Ensuring that every child with a serious
medical condition has the chance to experience the fun, friendship, and world of possibilities that camp has to offer, free
of charge.

EXPECTATIONS FOR YOUTH
There are a few things that go along with the Positive Tracks “double dollar deal”. In order
for Positive Tracks to match your dollars, we ask you to:
Agree to use Positive Tracks logo and messaging on your promotional efforts, fundraising missives,
and registration page. Use Positive Tracks Boilerplate language to explain Positive Tracks and what it does for
you and the Charity Partner you’re supporting. Use your charity’s requested messaging, too. Your
Positive Tracks Coordinator can provide your charity’s boilerplate language and logo/brand usage guidelines.
Include your charity’s logo and the Positive Tracks logo, too, if you create flyers, templates, or posters.
See Positive Tracks Style Guide. Make sure logos are of equal size and have roughly similar exposure or
placement on any promotional materials. We are happy to help you adjust any flyers or posters you make to
incorporate this logo.
Protect the integrity of Positive Tracks and its partners by checking in with Positive Tracks Coordinators
and abiding by each organization’s policies and protocol for independent fundraising efforts, logo usage, and
style guide. Independent Fundraisers should use a second line identifying the relationship with the
event/organization. Here’s an example: Use “Bake Sale benefiting The Dempsey Challenge: Proceeds
doubled by Positive Tracks” instead of “Dempsey Challenge School Bake Sale.” This makes it clear that your
bake sale isn’t The Dempsey Challenge – your bake sale benefits The Dempsey Challenge. Adding Positive
Tracks to your title recognizes Positive Tracks as a sponsoring partner, plus lets donors know that their
dollars will be doubled when they support your effort.
Hand out and display the Positive Tracks promotional materials you receive.
Comply with social media messaging that Positive Tracks and your Charity Partner recommends. Please
add Positive Tracks and logo to your Facebook event page. If you tweet about Positive Tracks
use @PosTracks and #postracks on Instagram.
Hang the Positive Tracks banner provided by your charity’s Positive Tracks Coordinator.
Let your Coordinator know how your effort actualized, and provide information related to your results,
including how many youth participants you pulled in and how much money you raised.
Fill out the Positive Tracks Next Gen Impact Questionnaire, found here, or through your Coordinator,
so we can measure how we’re doing in supporting your effort!

GO-MENTUM PLANNING GRID
What Needs To Be Done?
By When?
By Whom?

KEY FUNDRAISING TIPS
Be You! Smile, laugh, make friends and have fun every step of the way. You are the best advertisement for
your cause!
Tell Your Story. You believe in your cause, right? So clearly communicate it, and let your passion lead the
way in convincing your supporters of its worthiness. If you fundraise in memory or in honor of someone, say
so—telling a personal story about your cause is a way for people to relate to you and your cause.
Create A Timeline. Start with your end goal and work backwards from your goal in baby steps. Now
you’ve built an action plan. Go, you!!!
Set a tangible, achievable goal and let your potential sponsors know what that goal is.
Ask Creatively. Use your imagination and sense of humor. Use visual tools and social media to reach
beyond family and friends.
Ask Directly. People often respond more quickly to a tangible request than to a general request.
Promote Effort Through Multiple Channels. Social media, direct email, flyers and every friendly big
mouth or proud parent you know.
Follow-up! Engage supporters and potential supporters with updates on your progress and on how their
money will make a difference. Send them visuals of you in action.
Leverage The Double Dollar Deal. Remind yourself and your supporters that Positive Tracks makes every
effort and dollar a Two-fer.
Don’t Be Afraid Of Plan B. Square pegs and round holes, puppies and discipline – some things just don’t
work. Don’t dim your hopes—just go in a new direction.
Don't Be Afraid To Ask! You're not going to dinner with this money. . you're working to help the world!
Ask for Pledges from family members, friends, people at school, work, people nearby, people far away. Ask
your supporters about matching funds from their employers.
Suggest A Minimum gift amount or put down options ($100, $50, $25, other)
Thank, Thank, Thank! Recognize partners, sponsors, donors, mentors, team members, supporters, and
anyone who has helped you along the way. Nobody goes it alone.
5
Write a personal letter; create a newsletter or press release; make in-person solicitations. If you write a letter,
include a donation form and a self-addressed stamped return envelope.
Remind Donors That All Donations Are Tax Deductible. Your Positive Tracks Coordinator knows the
Tax ID Number for the Charity Partner you’re supporting.
Double your fun: Challenge a friend to participate with you and raise her/his own pledges!
HOW TO RAISE $500 IN A WEEK:
You can make a difference raising money for your cause if you break it down into several easy steps. Start by
setting a personal goal and then go for it! Here's one way to look at raising $500 in a week:
1: Sponsor yourself w/ holiday or birthday gifts for $25 $25 = $25
Plus PosTracks Match = $50!
2: Ask 3 family members for $25 $75 = $100
Plus PosTracks Match = $200!
3: Ask 5 friends to donate $15 $75 = $175
Plus PosTracks Match = 350!
4: Ask 5 co-workers to sponsor you for $10 $50 = $225
Plus PosTracks Match = $450!
5: E-mail 15 people & ask for a $10 donation $150 = $375
Plus PosTracks Match = $750!
6: Ask a company for a $75 contribution $75 = $450
Plus PosTracks Match = $900!
7: Ask two businesses you frequent for $25 $50 = $500
Plus PosTracks Match = $1000!!!

BEYOND THE BAKE SALE FUNDRAISING IDEAS
BINGO IS ITS NAME-O: Not just any Bingo, but Bust-a-Move Bingo, substituting activities for numbers.

KARAOKE CONCERT: The more (actively) embarrassing, the better.

a percentage of sales, host a tasting, etc.).

TOURNAMENT: Catch our drift? Leverage that sweat, dude.
AUCTION OFF YOUR ____: Sports gear, services, outgrown dirt bike, Dad’s old car (check with Dad
first!).

PICNIC BASKET RAFFLE: One word- yum.
ART AUCTION: Your own masterpieces, of course!
COW PATTY (OR OTHER PARTY) FUNDRAISER: If you’re not from New England or the MidWest, Google Cow Pies Bingo, and you’ll see what we’re talking about.

PET PAGEANT: Enough said. What’s better than pugs in tutus?
ULTRA RUN/BIKE/WALK/HIKE RELAY: Get moving, already.
CREATE AN ICE CREAM FLAVOR OR SANDWICH FOR LOCAL DELI: Partial proceeds go to
charity, and you’ve built a sweet awareness tool, too.

favor by turning clutter into cash.
THEMED MYSTERY DINNER: Get a kit online, or come up with your own clues and make each guest
a “character in crime.”
TRIVIA OR MOVIE NIGHT: Find awesome trivia night ideas on Squidoo, or on Fundraiserinsight.org.
