2014 FLOWER & VEGETABLE CONTEST RULES On Exhibit Saturday, Sunday and Monday, August 30 & 31 and September 1 RULES Can your fruit or vegetable outsize the next beefy tomato or stout potato? If you grew it, you can enter it. Separate entry form required for each category entered. Plant material must pass Classification Committee. Historic Richmond Town assumes no responsibility for the safety of exhibitors` property, although reasonable care will be exercised. Employees and board members, including their immediate families, cannot compete in the contest. Bring your best, your biggest, your brawniest, to Historic Richmond Town’s 2014 Richmond County Fair and walk away with this year’s Blue Ribbon for your earthy efforts. We’re looking for the largest, heaviest, biggest or longest in each of the following five categories: Pumpkin – (trim stem to 2 inches) -­‐ heaviest Tomato – (trim stem to 1 inch) -­‐ heaviest Carrot – (trim leaves to 1 inch) -­‐ longest Squash (goo-­‐gootz) -­‐ (trim stem to 1 inch) -­‐ heaviest Potato – heaviest Only the above five vegetables/fruit are eligible. They should be clean, dry (wipe off excess moisture) and free of any extra materials (dirt, stems, leaves, etc.) that could add weight. JUDGING A panel of professional judges will be judging entries on Saturday, August 30, 2014. Awards will be given only when merited. Judges` decisions are final. The committee reserves the right to remove or reject any entry not conforming to the show requirements and reserves the right to give special awards where merited. Bring entries to Court Place into the Flower and Vegetable Tent at 11:00 a.m. to enter the Fair for the day, at which time admission will be collected. PRIZES Ribbons will be awarded in each class. TO ENTER There is no CONTEST entry fee. To ensure exhibit space, contest entry form should be received by Wednesday, August 27th. Entries will be accepted at the Fair at 11am on Saturday, August 30th., but ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ENSURE SPACE FOR YOUR ENTRY. Entrants are reminded that admission to the Fair will be collected on the day of your visit. Exhibits must be in place by 11:00 am and may not be removed until Monday 6:00 pm. Richmond County Fair

I. Annuals One Spray 1. Marigolds (Tagetes) a. Tall b. Bush c. French 2. Celosia 3. Coleus 4. Snapdragon (Antirrhinum) 5. Sunflower (Helianthus) 6. Impatiens 7. Any other named annual II. Perennials 8. Roses (Rosa) 9. Any other Perennial III. Bulbs, Corms & Tubers 10. Dahlia 11. Gladiola 12. Any other bulb, corm or tuber IV. Edible Horticulture 13. Beans – 3 specimens each from one of the following: string, lima, or pole. 14. Beets – 3 specimens clean and free of side roots, cracks and blemishes. Stem no longer than 1”. 15. Cabbage – 1 head 16. Carrots – 2 specimens with tops intact. 17. Corn – 1 specimen 18. Cucumbers –1 large specimen or 3 small specimens; 19. Eggplant – 1 specimen; firm, clean, free from blemishes with 1” stem, of either small purple, large purple or white. 20. Fruit – 3 specimens from the ground, 3 specimens that are either shrub or bush, or 1tree specimens. 21. Gourds – 1 specimen, blemish free; a. large; b. miniature; c. sculpted form 22. Onions – 3 specimens, 3” or larger in size, that are well cured with outer scales. Tops should be cut off 1” above bulb as well as all long roots trimmed from one of the following: white, red, or yellow. 23. Peppers – 3 specimens each from one of the following: green bell, yellow bell, red bell, red cherry, green cherry, long, hot, or any other. 24. Potatoes – 2 specimens 25. Pumpkin – 1 specimen 26. Squash – 1 specimen from one of the following: zucchini, spaghetti or any other. 27. Tomatoes –Tomatoes should be free of cracks and blemishes, should be of uniform color, should not be over ripe, and should have all stems removed. For specimen with the minimum length of 5” or larger only one specimen is required. 3 specimens must be submitted for the plum or yellow varieties. 5 specimens of the cherry or grape varieties must be submitted. 28. Any other vegetable. 29. Special Classes –heaviest tomato, longest zucchini, longest squash, assorted vegetable basket of 10 different named vegetables (best display).
