Food. For Thought.
Heather’s Healthy, Wealthy and
Wise Oatmeal Cookies.
IS YOUR ATM CARD AT RISK?
In spite of the millions of ATM transactions that take place every day, only .05% of all funds processed
are fraudulent. And, despite various news stories about large-scale debit card fraud in recent
months, actual losses from these activities were even less than those from ATM transactions.
ATM and debit card security doesn’t happen by accident.
Torrance CCU works around the clock with
CO-OP Financial Services to combat ATM and
debit card fraud, using cutting edge systems to
detect suspicious transactions and thwart
scammers—all in ways that the average user
never detects.
“The good news is that we don’t see ATM and debit
card fraud as being out of control,” says Tillie
Broadstone, Operations Manager. “On the contrary,
TCCU and our partner, CO-OP Network, employ a
range of state-of-the-art technologies and tactics to
keep ATM fraud to remarkably low levels.”
“At the same time, we take a zero tolerance approach to
fraud,” Broadstone continues. “We consider security to
be a huge priority, and we’re glad to be partnering with an
industry leader in protecting our members’ money.”
Your TCCU ATM and debit card transactions are monitored constantly for potential fraud. Though you probably don’t
want to know about the underlying mathematical models and “neural network” technology, you
might like to know that the following activity patterns may signal fraud and can cause your account
to be flagged:
• You suddenly post more frequent, lower-dollar-amount transactions.
• Your card’s magnetic strip is missing a security code (indicating a potential fraudulent card).
• Online or phone transactions attempted without the correct three-digit security code.
• The name on the card does not match the name on your account.
• Your card transactions have exceeded the daily withdrawal limit.
• Expiration date on your card does not exactly match the date on file.
• The card in question has not been activated.
If this happens to you, or you have any questions about the use of your debit card, contact us at
310.618.9111. We will help you establish – or re-establish – your account so that it works seamlessly
and securely. And remember:
3
- Don’t Share your PIN with anyone.
- Shield the number pad when transacting at an ATM.
- Be alert to unusual equipment at ATMs.
- Alert the Credit Union immediately if you suspect fraud.
Stay vigilant to avoid being a victim of ATM fraud!

Directions
Ingredients
Brown the ground turkey, adding the chopped onion about halfway through. In a big pot, add
all the tomatoes, beans, corn, and taco seasoning mix. Add enough water to make it “stewy” or
more, if you want it more “soupy.” Bring to a boil then reduce heat and add the meat, onions
and ranch dressing mix. Add more water if you like. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Optionally, serve with cheese or sour cream or crunched tortilla chips on top. Super easy,
makes a lot, and it’s low-fat (without the cheese or sour cream) and high protein.
• 1 Small butternut squash (about 1 lb)

• 1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram
• 4 cans chicken broth
• 2 slices white bread
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Deep Discounts on Auto Coverage Extras
Are Just Icing on the Cake!
There is more to complete auto coverage than just auto insurance. Auto insurance only covers
financial issues arising from damage to your car. But there are so many other
situations that can, and will, arise when you own an automobile.
And, there are additional coverage types to protect you.
Usually they are sold at the dealership, but who will
protect you from the dealer, who jacks up the price to
increase the profit on their sale? TCCU – that’s who!
We offer the same coverages at a fraction of the cost
that you’ll find at the dealer. Take a look:
MBP – Mechanical Breakdown Protection
Your regular auto insurance probably doesn’t cover
mechanical breakdown repairs, like a new water pump, or
transmission, but you can get this coverage at the Credit Union for
much less than the dealer’s extended warranty. It can save you thousands in the long run!
ADR – Auto Deductible Reimbursement
It’s like insurance for your insurance! If you have a deductible, (and who doesn’t?), ADR can
cover part or all of your deductible for any insurance claim that exceeds your deductible.
GAP – Guaranteed Asset Protection. Now with ADR included!
If you owe more on your vehicle than your insurance company covers in a total-loss claim,
GAP pays the difference for a low cost one-time fee. The Credit Union offers this coverage at
a dramatic savings compared to the dealers.

Dashes and Pinches and Smidgens. Oh My!
SMIDGEN – A smidgen holds 1/2 pinch or 1/32 teaspoon. 2 smidgens = 1 pinch.
PINCH – A pinch holds 1/2 dash or 1/16 teaspoon. 2 pinches = 1 dash. A pinch has
historically been defined as “an amount that can be taken between the thumb and
forefinger” but without any definite equivalent in other units of measurement.
DASH – A dash holds 1/8 teaspoon. 8 dashes = 1 teaspoon. A dash was
originally considered a liquid measure, a small but indefinite amount.
More recently the term has been used as both a liquid and dry measurement.
NOTE: There is some contention as to just how much a pinch or dash actually
is. Some contend that they are both equal to 1/16 teaspoon, while others claim a pinch
equals 1/16 teaspoon, but a dash equals 1/8 teaspoon.
