20th January 2017 Spring Week 17
www.birdsbush.staffs.sch.uk
Punctuality!
School starts at 8.45am and doors close at
8.55am. We have too many children who are
coming to school 5 or 10 minutes late too often.
Learning happens right from 8.45 and some
children are missing out on valuable time by being
persistently late.
Please make sure children are in school, on time.
We have a duty to report persistent lateness to
the Education Welfare Worker (EWW) if a child
arrives after 9.20 it will show as an absence on
their attendance.
Lateness has a negative impact. Being late can:

Disrupt lessons

Affect achievement

Embarrass/upset your child
Being late adds up to loss of learning:
5 minutes late every day adds up to 3 days lost
each year
10 minutes adds up to 6 days lost each year
15 minutes adds up to 10 days lost each year
20 minutes adds up to 13 days lost each year
30 minutes adds up to 19 days lost each year
Being on time means not missing out!
The EWW will be making spot checks on lateness
this term!

UNIFORM REMINDER
Our school uniform consists of a burgundy
sweatshirt or cardigan with school badge and a
sky blue polo shirt. They are worn with a grey
skirt or trousers/shorts. Sensible black shoes
should be worn—trainers are not permitted. We
ask that tights are plain and an appropriate
colour for school.
For PE, we ask the children to have black
shorts, a sky blue round-necked T-shirt and
pumps. Jogging bottoms and trainers can be
worn for outdoor PE.
Please ensure that PE kits are in school every
day.
For Health and Safety reasons NO jewellery
can be worn for PE.
A small plain stud earring and a watch is
allowed at other times.
Please name all items of clothing—it makes it so
much easier to return when children lose
things!!
Can we please remind parents / carers
to park courteously around school and
not to park in the entrance to the
school, on the double yellow lines or
zig-zags.
Please do not turn around on driveways
or block residents drives—thank you.

We are always keen to welcome volunteer
