ANNOUNCING AMDA’S SUMMER 2014
DANCE CONCERT
1964: A Change Is Gonna Come
Dance Concert provides students the opportunity to work with professional choreographers
in the development of original dance works, culminating in performances.
Styles may include ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, tap, cultural, period and contemporary.
Dance Concert provides intermediate and advanced level dancers the opportunity to stretch
and grow beyond the classroom. All eligible current AMDA students are invited to audition
(see participation criteria below). At the audition, students will be taught a variety of
combinations in a broad range of styles.
Dance Concert is an intensive fast-paced process. Each piece receives two hours of rehearsal
time per week. All work will be screened by a panel of faculty and creative staff. Based upon
the screening, select pieces will move forward towards performance.
Student Choreography
As part of the Concert, there is an exciting opportunity for students to develop their own
original works of choreography!
Those interested in participating as student choreographers are asked to submit a detailed
proposal for the piece they wish to develop. Please download the proposal form via the eblast
or pick up a packet at production or the enrichment office.
Electronic proposal submissions are due to Marina Benedict, [email protected] & Danny
Crisp, [email protected] by 5pm Wednesday, July 2nd. If you are unable to send electronically,
please drop off a hard-copy to Monica in the Enrichment office located on the 2nd floor of Vine.
Students who are chosen as choreographers will be alerted to prepare a combo for callbacks.
Selected student choreographed work will be viewed for consideration at the screening, at
which time selected works will be determined to move forward to the performances.
