First Communion Quilts Travel 12,000 Miles
Thank You First Communion Participants for Sharing Love
and Warmth
When Steve and Nancy Laible traveled to Bangladesh in December
2016, they carried with them the love and warmth shared by the
first communion classes at Nativity Lutheran Church. Each year
the participants in first communion classes prepare a personalized
panel that becomes part of a quilt. The Bangladesh School Project
has been the recipient of the gift of quilts to be shared with children
in Bangladesh. Due to the travel schedule, there were two first
communion quilts available for sharing during the recent trip. One
quilt was presented to a family in the village of a Nativity Scholar.
The quilt will provide loving warmth to a small child and her family
during the coming winter. A second quilt was presented to the
younger sister of a Nativity Scholar who will now have her own quilt
to keep warm during the cold months ahead.
Many thanks to the participants who prepared the panels and to the
helping hands that assembled the lovely quilts.
Submitted December 12, 2016, by Steve and Nancy Laible, Co-directors of
the Bangladesh School Project.

Year End Giving
Considering your year-end giving? Please consider giving to Nativity? You can make your donation to
Nativity by going to the Nativity website and clicking on “GIVE.”
Snow and cold weather has challenged attendance and giving in December so we are grateful that people can
make donations on line at year end. Please remember that all contributions need to be postmarked or contributed
online on or before midnight December 31. If you prefer to make your
contribution in person we do have worship on December 31 at 5:30 pm.
Your generosity helps all of us to love courageously.

Sweets for Sharing
Martha and Mary Circle
Thank you to everyone who baked Christmas cookies or donated holiday tins
for the “Sweets for Sharing” project! The Martha and Mary Circle packed
114 tins that were delivered by 32 different drivers from the congregation.
Cookie tins went to elderly people who have difficulty getting out and around,
people who have struggled with a serious illness or people who have experienced the death of a loved one this past year (according to our records.)
A first-time driver sent this email after delivering cookie tins, “My son and I absolutely loved participating in “Sweets for Sharing”
and did end up visiting with all four people last night. It was a wonderful experience. I hope to make this a new holiday tradition and
can’t wait to do it again next year.”
Join the Martha and Mary Circle! They meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month for Bible study and fellowship in Room 218 at
12:00 noon. Next meeting – Jan. 18.
Race Equity Discussion
Sunday, January 8 at 9 AM in Fellowship Hall
Jodi Harpstead, CEO of Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota, will be our final presenter in our series on racial
equity. How do we listen to the stories of our neighbors?
How do we tell our stories? Talking about race and our
faith is both necessary and incredibly difficult. Few topics
are as rife with personal, social, cultural, and religious
land mines. If we only heed God’s voice, if we only lean on
God’s help, if we only move with love, hope, and courage
can we see new ways to work for race equity? All are welcome! If questions-Grace Gee, [email protected]
