INNOVATE & EDUCATION
The Lightning Innovation and Research Institute is an integrated department of INDELEC,
100% dedicated to innovation. This forward-looking research team of highly skilled engineers
provides INDELEC with undisputed R&D abilities and both internal and external training
capabilities on lightning protection management and safety equipment installation.
High voltage laboratory
The Lightning Innovation and Research Institute LiRi operates
a unique equipment: the 1.6 million volts High Voltage Laboratory
generates giant electrical arcing of several metres in a highly-secured
environment. The lightning conductors triggering times in
micro-seconds are recorded and compared to a reference single rod
air terminal. The gain measured qualifies the air terminal performance
and its compliance to the French and international standards.
Scientific research key player
Besides its future technologies engineering and
development projects, the Lightning Innovation and Research Institute LiRi
is a key player of the international lightning scientific community. The LiRI
scientists regularly release innovative articles during major lightning International
Conferences, especially on real lightning test campaign findings, another
INDELEC Group unique approach since 1993.
Educational programs
To address the complexity of the lightning phenomenon, the LiRI has built several training
and certification programs. It ranges from the educational program for general public to highly
technical engineering courses for construction experts. The Lightning Innovation and Research
Institute LiRi is also involved in French, European and international standard committees, sharing
its expertise to keep on improving lightning protection systems safety and performances.

Lightning solutions developed and
manufactured by INDELEC are designed to
withstand the worst environmental and climatic
conditions. From 1998 to 2000, in Japan,
scientists have recorded lightning discharges of
240,000 amperes on a Prevectron air terminal,
ie. power usage of a 30,000 inhabitants city !

INDELEC DEVELOPMENT
Innovation is part of INDELEC DNA: specialized since 1955 in
manufacturing and installing lightning protection systems, the company
introduced in the early 80’s a revolutionary technology: the Early
Streamer Emission Prevectron® air terminals. It became the main
lightning protection technology alongside the common “Meshed Cages”
design. INDELEC files several patent applications every year and it is now
pioneering the integration of new communication
technologies into lightning protection systems.

Thanks to this ongoing research process, INDELEC has
developed the most reliable and safest range of lightning air
terminals. Besides its unique High Voltage Laboratory,
INDELEC has been heavily investing into real lightning
test campaigns since 1993. Following campaigns in Florida,
Japan, or Brazil, the Lightning Innovation and Research Institute
LiRi team have set up a new test site in Indonesia, a major
lighting prone area in the world. Each and every INDELEC
product development benefits from these research equipment
and in situ validation, for optimum performance.
FULLY CERTIFIED
PRODUCTS
The full range of products is certified either by independent third
party auditor : Bureau Veritas for the Quality Certificate ISO 9001 and
the lightning air terminals tests in compliance with the NF C 17 102 : 2011
Annex C. These review and certification processes guarantee the quality
of the manufacture and installation of INDELEC Lightning Protection
Systems as well as their full compliance to standard requirements.
The products have also been tested in several other countries : European
marking CE, USA (UL), Russia (RTN), India (CPRI), Indonesia (ITB),
South Korea (KERI) etc…

State of the art installation by qualified experts is required to achieve highest
levels of performance and safety. Depending on the site requirements (limited
access, chemical, nuclear, electrical risks…), each step of the project is
supervised by skilled engineers and technicians following regularly
audited and certified processes (ISO 9001, MASE, Qualifoudre,
Qualifelec, Qualibat…)

RISK ASSESSMENT
AND TECHNICAL SURVEY
According to the site location, specifications and dimensions, the Risk
Assessment evaluates the required protection level.
Based on the Risk Assessment calculations and conclusions, a qualified
engineer conducts a Technical Survey that defines the protection
measures – direct and indirect protection systems, equipotential
bondings, etc - and the lightning protection system types and locations.
The survey also details the commissioning and maintenance requirements.

INSTALLATION
INDELEC Group is the major French installation
services network with eight subsidiaries.
Our technicians are frequently following training programs for
safety at height, electrical qualifications, and authorizations for
driving handling equipment or excavators. They are qualified
to operate in hazardous areas as well as nuclear sites.

each product sold in the world: 2 Euros are transferred to the association, one
from the Client and one from Indelec. Several projects have been completed
such as an orphanage construction in Togo, purchase of medical equipment
for a neo-natal intensive care unit in Vietnam, new building built in a disabled
person training center in India, fair trade project in Senegal, biodiversity
protection (introduction of honeycombs) …
