The cooktop may only be connected to the oven by a qualified electrician. Install the upper cabinets and ventilation hood before installing the cooktop to avoid damaging the appliance. ʊThe veneer or laminate coatings of countertops must be treated with 100 °C heat-resistant adhesive which will not dissolve or be‐ come deformed. Wall strips must also be heat-resistant. ʊOnce the cooktop has been installed, the electrical cord must not be subject to mechanical stress. ʊMake sure that, once the cooktop is installed, it is not possible to touch the underside of the appliance. In some cases, a front cover panel and bottom cover panel may need to be installed (see "Bot‐ tom cover panel"). All dimensions are indicated in mm. 27 Safety clearances Safety clearance above the cooktop For a ventilation hood positioned above the cooktop, always use the clearance specified by the hood manufacturer. If no specifications are available from the hood manufacturer, or if flammable ma‐ terials (e.g. wall shelf) are installed above the cooktop, the clearance must be at least 760 mm. If there is more than one appliance installed below the ventilation hood, each with a different safety clear‐ ance, the largest clearance must be used. 28 Safety clearances Safety clearances to the sides and back of the cooktop Ideally, the cooktop should be installed with plenty of space on either side. There may be a wall at the rear or a tall cabinet or wall on one side (right or left) (see illustrations). Ȧ Minimum distance between the back of the countertop cut-out and the rear edge of the countertop: 50 mm Not permitted! ȧ Minimum distance on the right side between the countertop cut-out and the closest adjacent piece of furniture (e.g. tall cabinet) or a room wall: 50 mm Ȩ Minimum distance on the left side between the countertop cut-out and the closest adjacent piece of furniture (e.g. tall cabinet) or a room wall: 50 mm Highly recommended! Not recommended! Not recommended! 29 Safety clearances Safety distance from the wall covering If a wall covering is installed, a minimum safety distance must be maintained be‐ tween the countertop cut-out and the covering, since high temperatures can dam‐ age these materials. If the covering is made of a flammable material (such as wood), the minimum dis‐ tance Ȫ between the countertop cut-out and the wall covering must be 50 mm. For coverings made of non-flammable materials (such as metal, natural stone, ce‐ ramic tiles) the minimum safety distance Ȫ between the countertop cut-out and the wall covering is equal to 50 mm minus the thickness of the covering. For example: thickness of wall covering 15 mm 50 mm - 15 mm = minimum distance of 35 mm Flush-mounted cooktops Cooktops with trim or bevelled edges & Masonry ' Wall covering dimension x = thickness of wall covering ( Countertop ) Countertop cut-out * Minimum distance to flammable materials: 50 mm non-flammable materials: 50 mm - dimension x 30 Bottom cover panel Measures must be taken to ensure that it is not possible to touch the underside of the installed cooktop. For this reason, a front cover panel and bottom cover panel must be installed if: – The cooktop is wider than the oven installed below it. – The cooktop and the oven below it are installed with an offset. The distance from the top edge of the countertop to the bottom cover panel must be at least 55 mm. An air gap of 10 mm must be main‐ tained between the bottom cover panel and the rear wall. 31 Instructions for installation Seal between the cooktop and countertop Do not use sealant between the cooktop and the countertop. Doing so could result in damage to the cooktop or countertop if the cooktop ever needs to be removed for servic‐ ing. The sealing strip under the top edge of the appliance provides an ade‐ quate seal with the countertop. 32 Tiled countertop The grouting Ȧ and the shaded area under the cooktop frame must be smooth and flat so that the frame will sit evenly on the countertop and so that the sealing strip under the top edge of the appliance can provide an adequate seal with the countertop. Installation dimensions & Spring clips ' Installation height ( Front ) Space for fastening elements and cable routing 33 Installation Preparing the countertop ĺ Create the countertop cut-out as shown in the cooktop diagram. Re‐ member to maintain the minimum safety distances (see "Safety clearan‐ ces"). Wooden countertop ĺ Seal any cut surfaces on the wooden countertop with a special varnish, sili‐ cone rubber, or resin to prevent the wood from swelling as a result of moisture. The sealant must be tem‐ perature resistant. Make sure that the sealant does not get on countertop surface. The sealing strip ensures that the cooktop will sit securely in the cut-out without slipping. Any gap between the trim and countertop will become smaller over time. 34 ĺ Position the spring clips Ȧ on the top edge of the cut-out as shown in the cooktop illustration. ĺ Fasten the spring clips Ȧ using the 3.5 x 25 mm screws supplied with the appliance. Installation Natural stone countertops You will need heavy duty double-sided adhesive tape (not included with the cooktop) to fasten the spring clips. Installing the cooktop ĺ Feed the cooktop power cord down through the countertop cut-out. ĺ Connect the cooktop to the oven (see "Connection to the oven"). ĺ Loosely position the cooktop in the countertop cut-out. ĺ Using both hands, press down on the cooktop edges until the cooktop is clearly in place. Make sure that the seal under the cooktop sits flush with the countertop on all sides. This is important to ensure an effective seal. ĺ Affix the adhesive tape Ȩ along the top edge of the cut-out in the posi‐ tions shown in the cooktop illustra‐ tion. ĺ Position the spring clips on the top edge of the cut-out and press them firmly into place. Never seal the cooktop using addi‐ tional sealant (e.g. silicon). If the seal does not sit flush with the countertop in the corners, the corner radius (Ǘ R4) can be carefully cut to fit using a jigsaw. ĺ Check that the cooktop works. The cooktop can only be lifted out of the cut-out with a special tool. ĺ Apply silicone adhesive to the side edges and bottom edge of the spring clips. 35 Connecting the cooktop ĺ Insert the plug casing on the cooktop power cord into the plug connector on the oven. Do not force the plug casing into the connector. The plug casing and plug connector are designed so that only one connec‐ tion alignment is possible. The protective ground wire is integra‐ ted in the plug casing. 36 ĺ Connect the EMC ground Ƴ, which is attached to the bottom casing of the cooktop (depending on the mod‐ el), to the cable lug on the oven. Electrical connection ɘ Risk of injury. Connection Installation, maintenance and repair work by unqualified persons can cause considerable danger to users, for which Miele is not responsible. Miele cannot be held liable for dam‐ age or injury caused by improper in‐ stallation, maintenance or repair work or by inadequate or faulty grounding in the building's wiring system (e.g. electric shock). The cooktop may only be connected to the oven by a qualified and com‐ petent electrician in accordance with current local and national safety reg‐ ulations. Make sure that all electrical compo‐ nents are shielded and cannot be accessed by users after installation. The voltage, rated load and fuse rating can be found on the oven data plate. Please ensure that these match the building's electrical supply. Disconnecting devices It must be possible to disconnect the appliance from the power supply on all poles using disconnecting devices. When switched off, a contact distance of at least 3 mm must be present. Dis‐ connecting devices include overcurrent protection elements and protective cir‐ cuit breakers. 37 After-sales service, data plate, warranty After-sales service For problems that you cannot resolve on your own, please contact: – Your Miele dealer or – Miele Service The telephone number for Miele Service can be found at the back of this booklet.
