In the eleven years I've been in Georgia I have been to many regionals and nationals as an
individual team and with team Georgia. I have never experienced the great spirit of unity that I
experienced in Knoxville, TN at the Men’s Golden Gloves regionals.
I would like to thank all of the Georgia boxers, coaches, officials and staff for the spirit of unity
that helped to make our trip to TN a success. I have to give a very special thanks to Coach Mike
Montgomery for being the catalyst that unified us and continued to make our unity stronger.
I hope that this unity will continue to grow stronger and stronger.

regional tournaments in order to advance to the National Championships in Dallas, Texas.
PeeWee (8-10) and Youth (17-18) registration opened on Monday, February 22nd at 8:00am MT
with only the first 32 athletes in each division allowed to register. REGISTER ASAP.
“Will go by year of birth“– Example: 14yr old turning 15 in 2016 boxes in the 15/16 age division.
All boxers must attend weigh-ins and make weight.
If an athlete does not weigh in, he or she will not be granted tournament entry and will not be
eligible to compete in Regionals/Nationals.

TEAM GEORGIA sent Buddy Davis as Team Manager to accompany a roster of nine (9) talented boxers
and two (2) coaches to the 2016 Men’s Southern Regional Golden Gloves in Knoxville, Tenn., April 6th9th. Team Georgia put on an impressive showing at this event, hosted at the Ace Miller Golden Gloves
Arena by the Knoxville Golden Gloves franchise.
All (9) GABA boxers medaled! Eight (8) GABA athletes earned gold and slots to represent the Southern
Regional Golden Gloves franchise (also known as Team “Knoxville”) May 16th-21st at the 2016 Men’s

The United States team won nine medals at the Americas Qualifier in Buenos Aires, taking four
gold, one silver and four bronze as well as clinching five Olympic berths. Five American boxers
qualified Olympic berths in Argentina – light flyweight Nico Hernandez (Wichita, Kansas),
bantamweight Shakur Stevenson (Newark, N.J.), lightweight Mikaela Mayer (Los Angeles, Calif.),
and middleweights Claressa Shields (Flint, Mich.) and Charles Conwell (Cleveland, Ohio). The
remaining American men will have two more opportunities to secure their Olympic berths at world
events in June. Bronze winner Virginia Fuchs will have one more chance to qualify for the Olympic
Games during the 2016 Women's World Boxing Championships, May 19-27, in Astana, Kazakhstan.
USA Boxing Women’s National Team Head Coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
coaches Joe Guzman (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Kay Koroma (Burke, Va.), Benny Roman (Brooklyn,
N.Y.) and Augie Sanchez (Las Vegas, Nev.) led the American team in Argentina. Click here to read
