A Message From the Principal Some of our Year Accomplishments

Fall 2016
A Message From the Principal
Dear Friends,
A new school year is upon us, 2016-2017, and this will mark the beginning of my
16th year serving as principal of Saint Stephen School! I have been both honored
and blessed to be a part of such a loving and wonderful community. Our
community continues to shine and to enrich the lives of all those who enter our
doors. As we begin this new academic year, we are filled with excitement and
hope for all the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead of us. Our teachers have
once again taken up their ministry of educating our children and bringing them into
a closer relationship with God. Father Tom, our pastor, continues to be our
spiritual leader and our strongest supporter. We look forward to all the new
adventures that await us!
In looking ahead, we also take time to thank God for this past school year and we celebrate all the
successes we have experienced. Our students took part and won in a number of events, including the
Laurelton Hall Science Olympics, the Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee, a local town art contest, and the
Knights of Columbus Christmas Tree Decorating Contest. Formal art classes began last January with Ms.
Cailie Mitchell who is also our librarian, and our hallways were adorned with all the beautiful artwork created
by the students. Ms. Donna Egan also directed another successful musical, “Beauty and the Beast” and
once again, our student performers amazed us with their “God-given talents”!
In keeping with the year of mercy and to our mission of encouraging our students to become responsible in
their communities, we raised funds for the Right 2 Thrive Organization in Kenya. Janet Patry, the founder,
came to Saint Stephen School and spoke to the children about the ways her organization improves the lives
of women and children in Kenya. As a faith family, we also came together to support and pray for two of our
students who lost their mother to cancer.
Some of our Year Accomplishments and Highlights
A Message From Fr. Tom
I get excited every year when school begins. I guess I’m still a child at heart.
When I see the smiles on the faces of our St. Stephen School students as they
return from the summer, it brings back memories of my school days, so full of
hope and laughter and learning. And that is exactly the environment we want to
maintain here for your children - a place they love to come to, a place where they
become a better person, a place where they know that they are loved and prayed
for.
St. Stephen School exists because of what we believe as Catholics. We believe
that children are gifts from God; we believe that education is important; we
believe what kind of person we are is as important as what we know; we believe
that every person has an immortal soul that will one day return to our Creator.
These are all things that you believe too. And so we encourage you to actively
practice your faith, because this is the most important thing that you can do to
back up what we are doing at school.
And I want you to know that we are always available to talk with you about what we believe, Catholic or not.
We may have more in common than you think. And if you have ever thought about becoming a Catholic, but
didn’t know how to find out more, please give me a call. I became a Catholic after 25 years of protestant
ministry, and so I think I can give you the information you may need. It may not be for you, but please know
that our doors are open to everyone.
And for 52 years now we have opened our doors to a new school year here at St. Stephen’s. Together with
you, we hope to open the hearts and minds of your children to the love and knowledge of God. THAT is what
gets me excited and keeps me young.
God bless you all.

Saint Stephen’s Nature Trail
Located by our playground, a new nature trail/walk was created by Joseph Corradino
and his Eagle Scout Troop. It’s a nice opportunity to highlight and appreciate nature
while learning about mammals and insects located at each pillar that was designed
and placed to add to this wonderful walk. Thank you Mr. Corradino and Eagle Troop
#608.
