FRACTION STRIPS Grade Levels 1-5 Numbers and Operations of Fractions Making the Game Fraction Strips 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. “ Pass out 1st strip of paper (label 1 whole) Pass out 2nd strip of paper; fold into 2 equal parts, label each part 1/2 Pass out 3rd strip of paper; fold into 4 equal parts; label each part 1/4 Pass out 4th strip of paper; fold into 8 equal parts; label each part 1/8 Pass out 5th strip of paper; fold into 16 equal parts; label each part 1/16 Dice 1. 2. Place 1 sticker on each side of the dice (6 stickers total per dice) Label each sticker (1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16) and choose to repeat any 2 fractions on the other 2 sides Play the game: “Cover the Whole (1)” Objective: To cover the entire whole without going over Number of Players: 2 To Play: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Place the whole (1) strip in front of you (each partner has their own) Player 1: Roll the dice Player 1: Cover the whole with fraction strip of what the dice shows Player 2: Roll the dice Player 2: Cover the whole with fraction strip of what the dice shows Repeat rolling and covering until someone has the entire whole covered.
