Create a Floor plan Guidelines for Floor Plans The house must be one story Use the following scale to draw floor plan and to build the walls and roof. o Scale: 1 inch = 4 feet (Each square on the graph paper is a ¼ inch) o Each unit on the graph paper is 1 foot. The floor space must fit within a 32 ft. by 40 ft. rectangle You must include at least 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, kitchen, and family room. o You need to research and determine the size of all items that are needed for your house. Use the ratio of 1”:4’ for your research. o Create a chart of all items researched including equivalent ratios. Include at least 3 pieces of furniture to scale. 2. Get the floor plan approved by the teacher, before continuing to next step. 3. Glue the floor plan on a piece of heavy construction paper or poster board that will be the piece of property. Identify and place the appropriate geographical physical features of your selected area, and decide what type of climate the house is located in. Ensure you place appropriate features according to the climate on the property. Building Regulations: o The front of the house must be set back at least 5 feet from the street. o The rest of the house may be no closer than 2 feet to the property line. 4. Construct the walls, doors, and windows (use file folders, heavy construction paper or poster board). Guidelines for Walls: o All outside walls of the house need to be the same height.(8 foot walls) o All houses are to be one story. o All houses must have a front door and back door for fire safety. o Windows should be added in appropriate places. o Walls should be made with a scale of 1 in : 4 ft. 5. Attach the walls to the floor plan. 6. Create a roof The roof must be a 3-dimensional shape, triangle and rectangles. (No flat roofs). 7. Do not attach the roof to the walls so the roof will be able to be opened and see the floor plan. 8. Create a Sales Brochure: Write a sales brochure or a magazine article about your home. Make sure to include information about the following features. Appearance What does your home look like? Describe the shape of its floor plan, its roof and any special features. Draw a front, side or top view of the home. Location What features did you include in your home design to make it a good match for the lot you chose? Climate What features does your home have to make it a good match for the climate you chose? Living Space What is the floor area of the home? Describe how you figured out the area. 9. Reflection: Write the answers in complete sentences on a separate sheet of paper. You may type your responses. 10.
