Sack Race Jump Rope Relay Birthday Hop Scotch

These jumping games help with balance,
coordination and are easy enough for kids (and
adults!) of all ages. With the different variations, they
are sure to be fun and active for the entire family.
Sack Race
lWhat You Need:
u 1 Potato sack or pillow case for each team member
lStep-by-Step
u Designate a start and finish line.
u Everyone competing lines up along the starting line with their sacks.
u On the count of three, everyone gets in a sack and hops to the finish line and back.
u The game ends when one team finishes their team rotation. Repeat!
lVariations
u Instead of just jumping forward – make participants jump to the side or backwards.
u Three-legged sack race – have teammates jump in pairs with the inside leg of each
participant in the sack and the outer leg outside.
Jump Rope Relay
lWhat You Need:
u 2 jump ropes
lStep-by-Step
u Split players into two teams and establish a finish line.
u Give each team one jump rope.
u When you say “Go!” the first two players from each team race to the goal line and back,
all while skipping rope.
u Hand off the rope to the next player and the race continues.
u The game ends when one team finishes their team rotation. Repeat!
Birthday Hop Scotch
lWhat You Need:
u Sidewalk, driveway or other similar surface uStone
u Chalk
l
Step-by-Step
u Draw a traditional hopscotch grid with chalk on concrete or create your
own grid design.
u Number the sections one through eight and find a stone to throw.
u At his turn, have each child throw the stone on a numbered square and
jump from one number to the next without jumping on the square with the stone.
u He should then turn around and jump back to square one, still avoiding that square.
u The game ends after every one gets a chance to hop. Repeat!
lVariations
u As a variation, have kids try jumping with only one foot. If their hopping foot touches
a line, they have to start over.
