TOWN OF DUNDALK LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS ORDER 2009
The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 24 of the Local Government Act 1994 (No. 8 of 1994), hereby orders as follows:
1. This order may be cited as the Town of Dundalk Local Electoral Areas
Order 2009.
2. In this Order “the Town of Dundalk” means the Town of Dundalk as
altered for the purposes of local elections by the Local Government
(Boundaries) (Town Elections) Regulations 1994 (S.I. No. 114 of 1994) and
references to the town boundary shall be construed accordingly.
3. (1) The Town of Dundalk shall be divided into the local electoral areas
which are named in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.
(2) Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area described in the
second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local
electoral area.
(3) The number of members of Dundalk Town Council to be elected for each
such local electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the
Schedule to this Order opposite the name of that local electoral area.
4. (1) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to a line drawn along any
road, avenue, street, lane or river shall be construed as a reference to an imaginary line drawn along the centre of such road, avenue, street, lane or river.
(2) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to the point at which any road,
avenue, street, lane, river, boundary, imaginary line or projection joins or intersects any other road, avenue, street, lane, river, boundary, imaginary line or
projection shall be construed as a reference to the point at which an imaginary
line drawn along the centre of such road, avenue, street, lane or river or, in the
case of a boundary, imaginary line or projection, along the boundary, line or
projection, would be joined or intersected by an imaginary line drawn along the
centre of the other road, avenue, street, lane or river or, in the case of a boundary, imaginary line or projection, along the boundary, line or projection.
(3) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to a line drawn along a road
which consists of a dual carriageway shall be construed as a reference to an
imaginary line drawn along the central median of such dual carriageway.
5. The Dundalk Urban District Local Electoral Areas Order 1998 (S.I. No.
359 of 1998) is hereby revoked.

drawn as follows:
commencing at the intersection of the northern boundary of
the town by the Castletown River; thence commencing in a
south-easterly direction and proceeding along the Castletown
River to its intersection by the imaginary northerly
projection of St. Nicholas Avenue; thence commencing in a
southerly direction and proceeding along the said imaginary
projection and proceeding along St. Nicholas Avenue to its
intersection with Castletown Road; thence commencing in a
north-westerly direction and proceeding along Castletown
Road to its intersection with Legion Avenue; thence
commencing in a southerly direction and proceeding along
Legion Avenue, McSwiney Street, Demesne Road and Park
Villas to its intersection with Magnet Road; thence
commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding
along Magnet Road to its intersection with Park Street;
thence commencing in a south-westerly direction and
proceeding along Park Street to its intersection with an
imaginary north-westerly projection of the rear boundary of
the curtilage of the property situated at the northernmost
end of the intersection of Williamson’s Place and Park
Street; thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and
proceeding along an imaginary line, running parallel to
Williamson’s Place, and proceeding to its intersection with an
imaginary northerly projection from the north-western
boundary of the Gaels Gaelic Football Club sports ground;
thence commencing in a southerly direction and proceeding
along an imaginary line, running parallel to Rampart Road,
and proceeding to its intersection with The Long Avenue;
thence commencing in an easterly direction and proceeding
along The Long Avenue and Avenue Road to its intersection
with the Dundalk Inner Relief Road; thence commencing in
a northerly direction and proceeding along the Dundalk
Inner Relief Road to its intersection with Coes Road; thence
commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding
along Coes Road to its intersection with the Blackwater
River; thence commencing in an easterly direction and
proceeding along the Blackwater River to its intersection by
an imaginary southerly projection from the western end of
Greenwood Drive; thence commencing in a northerly
direction and proceeding along the said imaginary projection
to its intersection by an imaginary westerly projection of the
rear boundary of the curtilage of the property situated at the
north-westernmost end of Greenwood Drive; thence
commencing in an easterly direction and proceeding along an
imaginary line, running parallel to Greenwood Drive, to its
intersection with Red Barn’s Road; thence commencing in a
northerly direction and proceeding along Red Barn's Road
to its intersection with Point Road; thence commencing in a
westerly direction and proceeding along Point Road to its
intersection by the imaginary southerly projection of the
eastern boundary of the Point Road Pitch and Putt Course;
thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding
along the said projection, the said boundary and its
imaginary northerly projection to its intersection by the town
boundary; thence commencing initially in a westerly direction
and proceeding along the said town boundary to the starting
point.

drawn as follows:

commencing at the intersection of the southern boundary of
the town with the Dublin Road; thence commencing in a
north-westerly direction and proceeding along the Dublin
Road to its intersection with Hoey’s Lane; thence
commencing in an easterly direction and proceeding along
Hoey’s Lane to its intersection with the entry road to the
Rockfield Manor estate passing between Rockfield Manor
estate and the adjacent Sports Grounds; thence commencing
in a northerly direction and proceeding along the full length
of the said entry road; thence commencing in a northwesterly direction and proceeding along the boundary of the
said Sports Grounds to its westernmost point behind the
Rockfield Manor estate; thence commencing in a northeasterly direction and proceeding along an imaginary line
running parallel with the Glenwood Estate until its
intersection with Tom Bellew Avenue; thence commencing in
a north-westerly direction and proceeding along Tom Bellew
Avenue to its intersection with The Long Avenue; thence
commencing in an easterly direction and proceeding along
The Long Avenue and Avenue Road to its intersection with
the Dundalk Inner Relief Road; thence commencing in a
northerly direction and proceeding along the Dundalk Inner
Relief Road to its intersection with Coes Road; thence
commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding
along Coes Road to its intersection with the Blackwater
River; thence commencing in an easterly direction and
proceeding along the Blackwater River to its intersection by
an imaginary southerly projection from the western end of

That part of the town of Dundalk not contained in the local
electoral areas of Dundalk Central or Dundalk East.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal
interpretation).
The effect of this Order is to amend the division of Dundalk Town into local
electoral areas and to fix the number of members of Dundalk Town Council to
be elected for each such area.
