Leadership Society Luncheon To Benefit Girl Scouts
Former U.S. Senator Nancy Kassebaum will serve as keynote speaker
WICHITA – Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland is pleased to announce former U.S. Senator Nancy
Landon Kassebaum Baker will serve as keynote speaker at the inaugural luncheon of the Juliette’s
Pearls Leadership Society, which has a mission of investing in girls to build
tomorrow’s community leaders.
The luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Wichita State University’s Rhatigan
Student Center is part of the society's efforts to raise funds and awareness for
Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland, ensuring girls across Kansas have a chance
to participate in programs that help them thrive now and in the future.
When Juliette Gordon Low founded Girl Scouts in 1912, she sold her set of pearls so more girls
could participate in Girl Scouting. Just like Low, the founding members of the Juliette’s Pearls
Leadership Society want to ensure Girl Scouts continues to help girls discover, lead, and make
their communities and the world better for generations to come.
The society is honored to have Kassebaum, an inspiring leader and Kansas native, as a special
guest at the upcoming luncheon sponsored by Spirit AeroSystems, the Fidelity Bank Foundation,
and Westar Energy. Kassebaum was just 4 years old when her father, Kansas Governor Alfred M.
Landon, was the Republican presidential candidate who ran against Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1936.
A Brownie Girl Scout from Topeka, she embarked on her own path to leadership. Kassebaum was
elected in 1978 to the United States Senate and served three terms – the first woman to represent
Kansas in the Senate.
The Juliette’s Pearls Leadership Society has members from across the state. To support Kansas
Girl Scouts and ensure a spot at this special luncheon, become a founding or annual member of
the society by contacting Amber Hendrix, Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland’s director of fund
development, at (888) 686-6468 or [email protected]. Go to kansasgirlscouts.org to learn more
