Area and Perimeter Formulas FGA Unit 3
Area – measure in square units (units^2)
Area = the number of square units in the interior of a figure
Area = area to mow
Perimeter = distance around a figure; the perimeter of a polygon is the sum of the
lengths of all the sides
Perimeter = fence around the area to mow
Area of a Rectangle
A = lw (length x width)
A=bh (base x height)
Area of a Square
A = S^2
A=s+s+s+s
(s = side)
Perimeter of a Rectangle or Square
P=L+L+W+W
OR
P = 2L + 2W
Area of a Triangle
A = 1/2base X height
OR
A = bh/2
Perimeter of a Triangle
P = S + S + S (S = Side)
Perimeter of a Circle = Circumference
C = pi x d (d = diameter)
OR
C = 2pi x r (r = radius)
