Trendsport Club – Relocation to the harbour area Starting position In the year 1998, the back then Basler Freizeit Aktion (today Jugendarbeit Basel, short JuAr Basel), the Christoph Merian Foundation and the Sportamt Basel founded the Trendsport Club Basel. The first location was on the Margarethenanlage, after that in the Landihalle (Novartis). In 2003, the Trendsport Club had to move again: The IWB-‐Pumpwerk in the Schoren quarter (Lange Erlen) in Basel was offered for free usage. After extending the contract of the facility twice, it expired in Summer 2015 definitely. But the IWB administration offered us a delay until end of the year, so that the reloca-‐ tion can be done with a consistent operation. Responsible for the operation is the Trendsport Club Ba-‐ sel; the carrier is the Sportamt Basel-‐Stadt, the JuAr Basel and the Christoph Merian Foundation. Presi-‐ dent of the executive committee is Oliver Bürgin, Basel`s own Skateboard legend. The JuAr does the bookkeeping. Location search The search for a new location was done on several levels and was a time intense effort. The end of the temporary usage and a long-‐term option is a facility at the Erlenmatte, which sounds very promising. According to the department of education Basel-‐Stadt the Trendsport Club is considered part of the planning. The realization is planned for end of 2018. The time until then must to be bridged – as a tem-‐ porary usage the Club found a space at the harbour. This space is part of the Esso parcel at the Klybeckquai. In cooperation with the I_Land Club, which is a contract partner with the canton for the temporary usage, the Trendsport Club will build a light construction facility and move in at the begin-‐ ning of 2016. Operation In the former pump station of the IWB, the Trendsport Club offers children, adolescents and the young at heart from the hours 14.00 to 21.00 / 22.00 a broad trend sport offer. In 4 rooms as well as outside are different ramps, a Half-‐Pipe, a Boulder room and more obstacles for the visitors to use. In the year 2014, 13`370 visitors used the Trendsport facility; which is a new visitor record. The analysis of this number shows that the trend sport Scooter leads the list of trend sports with an age group from 12 to 14 years old which is with a total of 30% the most prominent age group at the Pumpwerk. A variety of needs and services are covered: School lunch, trend sport classes, daily vacation, a shop, and a kiosk counter. Young co-‐workers and volunteers support the team. The club with it`s offerings takes an important position in the region. A central point is also clear rules, which forbid the use of drugs and alcohol. The Trendsport Club Basel guarantees a professional, and appropriate for young people, operation of the facility. Relocation The relocation is set for the end of the year; the ideal situation is to continue at the temporary facility in January 2016. From the existing ramps and elements we will utilize those, which are most popular and fit best in the new location. ! The bowl: The space for the bowl is flexible. The bowl is built to fit in a wide range of rooms and facilities. ! The street area: The discipline street needs the most space. The different trend sports have dif-‐ ferent demands for the size of ramps, so setting apart different ramps and therefore needs in the street area is possible. ! Sanitary facilities: Usage of the neighboring planned sanitary facilities or taking along the exist-‐ ing WC container currently in use at Pumpwerk. ! Side rooms: Right now Pumpwerk operates a small bureau, an entrance-‐ resp. counter space as well as a room for thirsty guests and the school lunch table, which is a service commissioned by the educational department. However the lunch service will be over by Summer 2015. For the entrance and wardrobe space it`s possible to bring along a container currently at the Pumpwerk facility. The club estimates it will cost CHF 150,000.00 to complete relocation process. A large part of the expenses for deconstruction and reconstruction as well as transport can be saved with the help of volunteers. This capital is extremely important for the club and shows the willingness of the community to help the Trendsport Club. Funding A main sponsor is the longtime partner Christoph Merian Foundation (CMS) and the Swisslos-‐ Sportfonds Basel-‐Stadt. Additionally the IWB offered the club a free usage at the current location. At the end of 2014 these two main sponsors decided to support the club also in finding a temporary facility and place. The sum of the investment is enough to build a light construction facility. The financ-‐ ing for equipment and relocation needs to be covered by additional fundraising. When 70% of the fund-‐ raising is reached, the crowd-‐funding platform "weakest" will start to cover the rest of the expenses. To show the need of support, we pointed out some points with a price tag (see appendix).
