GREETINGS FROM
OUR FOUNDER
Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your interest in SKATEYOGI Summer Camp.
SKATEYOGI was born in 2013 when I was inspired to teach a
skateboarding class to adult beginners at a yoga studio (hence the
name). We are delighted to now have our very own space in the
heart of Brooklyn at 140 Empire Blvd (between Franklin & Bedford
Aves) just a few minutes from Prospect Park.
Our air-conditioned indoor skate facility is fully equipped with
movable ramps and obstacles as well as skateboards, safety gear
and helmets for complimentary use by our students. The attached
skate shop doubles as a learning laboratory during our afterschool
and camp programs.
Everyone here at SKATEYOGI is looking forward to skating and
learning with you soon!
Namaskate!

SKATEYOGI’S
CORE PRINCIPLES
1. HIGH FIVE!
SKATEYOGI starts and ends
our class with high fives to
show each other’s respect and
celebrate the moment we got
to share – influenced by a zen
concept known as Ichi-go
Ichi-e: “Treasure every encounter, for it will never recur.”
2. CHECK
YOUR EGO AT
THE DOOR.
SKATEYOGI offers an ego-free
zone for all our students
regardless of their levels.
4. IT’S NEVER TOO
LATE TO LEARN
SOMETHING NEW.
SKATEYOGI believes that there is
no such thing as being too old
for something, certainly not for
skateboarding.
5. NAMASKATE!
Namaste is a phrase/gesture
of pure compassion and
recognition: that we bow to
the true self inside each one of
us. SKATEYOGI encourages
skateboarders to be respectful
and thankful to each other and
the surrounding community.

DURING SKATEYOGI LAB (12:30 – 1:45PM) EACH WEEK, WE WILL
EXPLORE STEM CONCEPTS APPLIED
TO SKATEBOARDING THROUGH
INTERDISCIPLINARY PROJECTS.
Skatepark Design
Covering the process from site selection,
obstacle layout and building materials,
campers will learn how to design parks
that flow with runs for skaters of
different abilities. Using SKATEYOGI as
a modular park. we will get a chance to
put these concepts into action.
WEEK 1: JUNE 19 – 23, 2017
WEEK 6: JULY 24 – 28, 2017
Skateboard Assembly & Maintenance
Learn the nuts and bolts of a skateboard
as we independently assemble the
wheels, bearings, trucks and mounting
hardware. Routine maintenance activities
will also be presented to keep their
skateboards in good riding condition.
Experimental Skateboard Design
Starting with the history of skateboard
design over the last 50 years, we will
deconstruct the “correct” configuration
as we imagine unique and wacky
setups.Together we will build some
experimental boards and have fun
testing our creations.
TUNE IT UP!

WOODEN WAVES
WILL IT SKATE?
WEEK 7: JULY 31 – AUGUST 4, 2017
Ramp Design & Construction

will receive a Boundless Brooklyn model
half pipe kit to put together and
decorate during lab time.
DIY Obstacle Construction
Beginning with a survey of common
street obstacles, we will then explore
more elaborate modifications that
skaters build to increase the potential
of neglected city spaces. On our trips
into Prospect Park we will use found
objects to create some temporary
spots to shred!
