This is our last week of the “I Love to Read” Challenge. Please
encourage your child to read, read, read! The brightly colored
calendar papers are due next Monday. (I am attaching an extra one

4th Grade Young Hoosier Books
Congratulations to Breece Erickson who is also Young Hoosier Star! I
forgot to add his name to the list. Sorry about that, Breece! Here is
the updated list of Young Hoosier Champs: Bailee, Chris, Libby,
Breece, and Briana. Keep going!!
Writing
Last week we dissected the writing prompt. We looked at how to
manage our time: 5-10 minutes to plan, 35-40 minutes to write, and 410 minutes to proofread. We talked about:
1. Time management
2. Using the planning sheet
3. Focusing on the topic
4. Answering all the questions on the prompt.
This week we will:
 look at exemplary examples and why these tests scored so well.
 work on comparing and contrasting different texts
 focus on writing strong conclusions.
You can help your children by looking at different books and
examining the beginnings and endings of stories. You can further the
learning by discussing the “hooks” and what entices the reader as well
as what makes for a memorable conclusion. Thank you for your
support as we prepare for the ISTEP writing prompt!
