Vocabulary and Writing exercise
1) Find synonyms for the following verbs. You may use a thesaurus. The objective is to find
descriptive verbs that are synonyms with the following words. However, synonyms are not
two words of the same meaning! Instead, they are two words that share a similar
or related meaning.
Example
‘giggle’ is a synonym of ‘laugh’. However, to giggle is not the same as to laugh, but rather
a form of laughter. It is important to keep as mind that certain verbs can used at times to
add more description and clarity to your writing and speech.

2) Make groups of 2 to 4 people. Working together, create another story using only the
words from the list of verbs compiled above. A prompt will be provided to begin the story.
Present your story to the class.
