THE CONCEPT LO NUEVO (“The New”) refers to modern Spanish

THE CONCEPT LO NUEVO (“The New”) refers to modern Spanish wines. These are wines that reflect the cultural life of modern Spain, its art and architecture, film and theater, fashion, music and a vibrant social scene that’s built around wine and food and nightlife. Wines that express passionate personal vision and courageous creative freedom. Wines crafted in a style that reflects the modern renaissance in Spain’s wine industry; it’s about freedom of expression, new styles and methods of production...and discovery! THE AESTHETIC Historically, Spanish design has embraced a valiant willingness to experiment and courage to be bold, that is embodied in the haute couture of Balenciaga, the Guggenheim at Bilbao, the films of Pedro Almodovar, the paintings of Velazquez, Picasso and Dali and the seductive flavors of Chefs Ferran Adriá and José Andrés. Inspired by these artistic principles, our compelling Lo Nuevo floral label images capture, with bold design and sensuous color, the essence of the wines – the crisp and delicate flavors of our Albarino and the rich, velvety, perfumed flavors of our Garnacha. WHAT’S IN A NAME – SORBO A SORBO GARNACHA “Sorbo a Sorbo” means “Sip Sip”; a perfect name for a delicious wine. The rose image was inspired by the rich, beautiful ruffle patterns in a brilliant gown by Spanish fashion designer Balenciaga. Informed by this aesthetic, and reflecting the modernization of Spain’s wine industry, our label is vibrant, contemporary, and dynamic. WHAT’S IN A NAME – COVELLO ALBARIÑO
There is a town in Rías Baixas called Covelo (Co‐Vey‐yo), just inland from some of the vineyards. We liked the soft sound of the name and felt it a fitting companion to the fresh pink and yellow tones of our Albarino rose. Reflecting the bright, refreshing experience of the wine within the bottle, our Lo Nuevo Covello Albariño label captures the expectation of juicy peach and apricot flavors and aromas with its lush yet delicate hues, and the freshness of blossoms with its compelling imagery. Lo Nuevo Wines are Imported by Vintage Point vintagepoint.com SORBO A SORBO GARNACHA, CALATAYUD MODERN WINE FROM ANCIENT VINES LO NUEVO Garnacha is produced from low yielding, old vine, estate grown vineyards. Grapes from these old vines (from 70 to 140 years of age) produce rich, concentrated, fruit forward flavors with wonderful varietal expression. We craft this old vine fruit into wine, implementing innovative, New World winemaking philosophy and meticulous, modern technique facilities. THE VINEYARDS AND CLIMATE Calatayud is a high elevation wine region with our estate vineyards found on a plateau of rolling hills at 4000 feet above sea level, surrounding the small town of Ateca. These amazing vineyards, the highest within the Calatayud Denomination of Origin, are planted in blue slate soils and dry farmed. Calatayud has a broadly continental climate, characterized by warm, dry summers and cold winters. Rainfall is low (less than 14”per year) and summer temperatures are moderated by the altitude, which is vital to the region’s quality wines. This altitude also contributes to the wide diurnal (day‐night) temperature range of 55 °F. Cool nights help preserve grape acidity, which adds vibrancy to the rich fruit. WINEMAKER’S TASTING NOTES The Sorbo a Sorbo Garnacha displays intense aromas and flavors of ripe cherry, raspberry, and currant, with subtle balsamic and mineral notes that add pleasantly to the complexity. A fresh, accessible wine with lingering, bright fruit on the finish. Beautifully balanced, elegant and delicious. Serve cellar temperature. COVELLO ALBARIÑO, RÍAS BAIXAS THE VINEYARDS AND CLIMATE The vineyards of Covello Albariño are in the rolling countryside of Rías Baixas, Spain, just north of its border with Portugal. Albarino is unique to this area and its cultivation is distinctively adapted to Rías Baixas. All these vineyards are small family plots. The vines are trained to grow on an overhead trellis, allowing the fruit to shelter underneath its leaves. As a result, the delicate fruit is protected from hot summer sun. This labor intensive system is key to preservation of the wonderful floral aromas of the Albariño grape. The Rías Baixas region is close to the sea and benefits from moderate winter climate and cooling summer onshore winds. The climate is distinctly Atlantic, rather than Mediterranean. It provides a strong maritime influence that is responsible for the brisk, refreshing acidity of wines from this region. WINEMAKER’S TASTING NOTES Our Lo Nuevo Covello Albariño from Rías Baixas is fresh and aromatic; aromas of spring blossoms and fresh cut apricot fill the glass. On the palate the wine is delicate and refreshingly brisk with acidity. The wine has ample fruit and finishes with both tart and juicy fruit flavor. Serve well chilled.
