Unit Rate: A ratio that compares two
quantities that have different units of
measure. In a unit rate, the second quantity in
the comparison is 1 unit ( has a denominator of
one unit).
Which Examples would be a Unit Rate?:
*Fruit for $0.49 per pound.
*3 items for $10
*$0.59 for a 12-ounce can of pineapples
*a car lease for $289 a month

Unit rates are used to compare the costs of items in a
grocery store.
For example if eight ounces of orange juice cost $2.25 and
twelve ounces of juice costs $3.25, you would calculate the
unit rate to determine which container was the cheapest.
=
Unit rate is $0.28 for 1 ounce
=
Unit rate is $0.27 for 1 ounce

Speed limit is a unit rate because it is measured as the number
of miles traveled per 1 hour. So, 55 miles per hour is a unit
rate, whereas 110 miles per 2 hours is not a unit rate (because
the second measurement, time, has a value of 2, not 1).
