CARING FOR YOUR DEX PEN USING YOUR DEX PEN, THE BASICS: To use, hold your Dex pen as the picture shows, gripped between you middle finger, index finger and thumb. Wash the nib section occasionally by soaking in cold water overnight. Do not use waterproof, India or calligraphy inks - which may stain if the ink touches a surface or block the nib unit, damaging the nib. Always replace the cap securely after use. DEX BY KINGSLEY CARTRIDGES Dex by Kingsley pens use international cartridges with lubricating ink, available in black or blue. The inks are not hazardous if used for the intended purpose. If the ink makes contact with the skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If the ink is swallowed, or makes contact with the eyes, rinse with water and seek medical advice if necessary. Mop up any spills with absorbent materials and dispose of it properly in a bin. Not to be used by small children. CLEANING YOUR PEN If used regularly a fountain pen will be selfcleaning, but if your pen becomes blocked, follow these easy steps to restore the ink flow: • U nscrew the barrel and pull out the empty cartridge and dispose of it properly in a bin. • S oak the nib section in tepid water for at least 24 hours, changing the water when it gets very inky. • E very time you change the water, wrap the nib section in a paper towel and shake it well, avoid contact with clothing and porous surfaces. If you wish to change the colour of ink, follow the steps above to clear the old colour before putting in the new cartridge. You may need to write several sentences in the new colour before the colour changes completely. CHANGING YOUR CARTRIDGE 1. Unscrew the barrel and pull out the old cartridge. 2. Push in the new cartridge. (Compact) 3. Put in two cartridges. (Soft smooth) 4. Screw on the barrel to close. 5. Hold the pen upside down to encourage the ink flow. CHANGING THE CARTRIDGE IN THE COMPACT PENS Put a full cartridge narrow end first into the nib section and press the base of the cartridge onto a hard surface to pierce it. Screw the barrel back onto the nib section and place the cap onto the pen. To draw the ink down to the nib, turn the pen so the nib is pointing down for a couple of minutes and the ink will come through. Do not squeeze the cartridge. CHANGING THE CARTRIDGE IN THE SOFT SMOOTH PENS These pens hold a spare cartridge. Put a full (spare) cartridge narrow end first into the pen barrel. Put another full cartridge on top of it with narrow end up and screw the barrel back onto the nib section, this will pierce the ink cartridge. To draw the ink down to the nib, turn the pen so the nib is pointing down for a couple of minutes and the ink will come through. Do not squeeze the cartridge.
