STARK SPEAKS CLASSROOM MEETING LESSON PLAN UP FOR KINDNESS TOPIC: Conflict Resolution AUTHOR: Katina Parks, Alliance City School District RESOURCES: Copies of Kelso’s Wheel (attached) for each student DIRECTIONS: Introduce students to Kelso the frog: Kelso Likes to play with his friends Sometimes we don’t always get along with our friends, so Kelso has some tips on how to solve our problems. Kelso calls these tips “conflict resolution” skills. Implementation: Explain to the students that there are many different conflict resolution skills available. Kelso’s Rules are a great way for them to visualize choices that they can make in situations. Below are examples of situations that students may experience. Ask the students to choose two conflict resolution options per example. Give them plenty of time to think about it and explain why they chose the options that they did. • You and your friends are arguing about what game to play outside. • Someone is talking behind your back and they hurt your feelings. • Your classmate is tapping his pencil in class and it is bothering you. • You and a group of friends are arguing over who gets to sit next to a certain friend. • You do not want to do the work the teacher wants you to do. . FOLLOW-UP: Have students choose one of Kelso’s tips to go and try this week – then report back to us! www.starkspeaksupforkindness.org
