Why Electrolytes? Isn’t water enough?
Water is necessary but does not contain minerals lost during
activity. Water acts as a conductor to carry nutrients such
as electrolytes throughout the body, as well as flushes vital
organs of toxins.
Electrolytes, however, are essential minerals (sodium,
potassium, calcium and magnesium) the body needs and
uses for basic cell function. Electrolytes regulate body fluids which
maintains a healthy pH balance.

High Heat Risk Factors
Preventive measures lessen heat hazards
The U.S. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) developed the heat index system. The
heat index combines both air temperature and relative humidity into a single value that indicates the apparent
temperature in degrees Fahrenheit, or how hot the weather will feel. The higher the heat index, the hotter the
weather will feel, and the greater the risk that workers will experience heat-related illness. NOAA issues heat
advisories as the heat index rises. To learn more about the heat index, visit NOAA’s website.
