Three former Eagles lead Lourdes
After a successful inaugural season,
Lourdes University’s women’s soccer program looks to climb over the .500 mark in
2016. Head coach Jackie Donovan returns
13 players from last year’s roster which led
the Gray Wolves to an 8-9-1 overall record
and a 5-5 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier
Athletic Conference.
Last year, Lourdes tied for sixth place
in the league standings before falling to
Siena Heights in the WHAC tournament
quarterfinals. Donovan has brought in 11
newcomers, including eight true freshmen.
Three former Clay and Owens
Community College players are with the
Gray Wolves, including 5-foot-3 senior midfielders Abby Groll and Kendyl Christian
and 5-6 junior/senior defender Megan
Soncrant. In the midfield, Groll gained a
great deal of experience last season. Also
with Lourdes is 5-7 freshman/sophomore
midfielder Reagan Boice (Eastwood).
Lourdes has a talented corps of forwards that will look to provide more offense for a squad that scored 15 goals in the
first season. Christian added three goals
and seven total points and enters her senior
season looking to find the back of the net
even more in her final year.
Kokemeyer at Lourdes
As Lourdes University’s women’s volleyball team takes to the court for the 2016
season, the Gray Wolves will do so as the
defending Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic
Conference regular season and tournament champions. Joining the team this year
is six-foot tall freshman middle blocker
Courtney Kokemeyer (Gibsonburg).

The Gray Wolves are coming off
of a 33-2 season in 2015, a program record for victories in a campaign, and advanced to pool play at the NAIA National
Championship for the first time in school
history as well. Last year’s WHAC Coach of
the Year Greg Reitz returns 15 players from
last year’s roster, and has added four transfers and three freshmen to the squad, which
is ranked 14th in the NAIA preseason poll.
In his seventh season on the Lourdes
bench, Reitz has a 118-87 (.576) record at
the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his eighth
season overall as a women’s head coach,
Reitz has a 138-122 (.531) career mark. He
is the only head coach in Lourdes program’s
history and was named WHAC Coach of
the Year in 2015.
Lourdes opened its seventh season of
intercollegiate volleyball last weekend at
the Red Raider Classic. The Gray Wolves
played four matches over two days, including contests with top-25 foes Northwestern
(Iowa) and Dordt.

Inspirational Message of the Week: We All Make Mistakes
We all make mistakes, and sometimes these mistakes
are big ones which adversely affect ourselves and the
ones we love. It is often easier to live with mistakes that
affect only ourselves than those which hurt the ones we
love. But we should not allow ourselves to be crushed by
our mistakes. We really should pick ourselves up, do what
we can to alleviate the damage that we may have caused,
and get on with our lives. In fact, we should really have a
mindset that plans on making mistakes. Not in the sense
of actually trying to do something wrong, but in the sense
that because we are human, we know that we will err and
that our errors may sometimes be costly and painful. Our
Genoa
favorite cup will someday be broken, because we, or
someone else, will drop it. Most car crashes are caused
by driver error, and we can wallow in our guilt after an
accident, or we can “dust ourselves off,” and move on with
our life. I’m not suggesting that we be callous about our
mistakes. A certain amount of guilt and remorse is
appropriate, but it is important that we not wallow in selfpity precisely because that attitude makes it more difficult
to help those we may have harmed. For we all make many
mistakes, and if any one makes no mistakes in what he
says he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body
also. R.S.V. James 3:2
