Susanna commends the administration for the support provided to students
surrounding the death of Evan and Jordan Caldwell. School council supported the staff
with coffee for the debriefing meetings. In addition a message of condolence was
placed on behalf of school council on the Parent Council Facebook site. It was well
received and shared several times over the 48 hours following the tragedy.
Myra
th
The tragedy involving Evan Caldwell occurred on Friday, February 6 . The Chief
Superintendent’s office contacted Myra on the Saturday to inform her of the tragedy.
Myra worked with the chief’s office and crisis team during the weekend. We had 11
members of the crisis team, and 5 subs to help support the students and staff. All of
the subs were fully utilized. There was an outpouring of support for the school from all
CBE personnel.
The school supported with
• Remembrance book and photo/candles in conference room
• Commemorative ribbons were made
• Scripts were in place for the front office staff to assist with parent calls
• Area office came in to handle crisis situations
• Targeted students had support waiting in place at arrival (friends of Evan)
• Chief Superintendent came to the school himself which made a huge
difference for people
• Myra was talking live to the Chief’s office/Area office for constant direction
• We put a media halt in place and did not allow cameras into the school
• The chief made a TV presentation from the front of EMHS
• We will be marking Evan’s life at graduation and at the FIRST Robotics
completion and in other ways

tickets
We are in the final process with the valedictorian selection
The Class historian and the various speeches will be decided by next week
We are currently working on the 2017 graduation, hoping to find a larger venue
We understand the need to have more tickets so we are pursuing other
avenues, but we do not want to lose the pomp and ceremony so a new venue
must meet EMHS standards
A new date must be close to the end of May

Exam time/Flex Phase
• Four documents available on-line
• Learning opportunities will be provided as follows:
o Credit Recovery student 45 to 49 are contacted to participate

• This will keep the students much more involved during the flex phase
supporting our continuous learning model
• Just about every member of staff will be constantly booked with providing
service (i.e. marking IPPs, Review sessions, teaching, etc.)
• Not called exam schedule now called FLEX Phase
• The idea is to provide more personalization opportunities
• Parents are expected to work through the FLEX Phase schedule with their
students to determine what will work best for their family
• Once the grade 10 students are finished with their examinations there will be a
burst of activities to keep students engaged
• The FLEX Phase documents are data rich, please take a minute to review
• We are reviewing with teachers constantly for additional ideas
We are trying to provide a Continuous Learning Environment and are waiting to hear
about summer program approval from the area office. We want to be continuously
open for students.
• We are looking at both July and August for classes, however we need the
engagement from teachers in order to proceed
• Success levels for summer classes were amazing last year
• We want to have our own teachers to teach in the summer as they know our
student’s history and have established relationships with them.
• An advantage of doing EMHS summer programs is that our Student Services
team will immediately adjust the timetables for the following year.
• The Copernican model focuses on 1-2 subjects at a time for a shorter duration
• For our level 2 students we are working on a Copernican model that will allow
them to take the 20-2 /30-2 level all morning to complete both levels in a
semester
• We are also extending time to finish a program
• We are changing the timetable to reflect an early shift and a late shift for
teachers who select this option.
• We are building out the Culinary Arts program to have two teams of teacher
and chef each in order to provide food service from early morning to early
evening
• We will be going from a 4 period day to a 6 period day

This allows for enormous flexibility
Credit recovery is available throughout the year
We continue to embrace changes to further personalize the student
experience

• We are looking for new risers in the gym that will allow for another 200 seats
• We have to redo the floor designs
• Focussing on Griffin pride - the gym entrance will be painted over spring break
to have a large Griffin welcome
• In the fall the gym will look brand new
Ernest Manning’s expectations for student behaviour
• We have high standards and students who are not achieving these high
standards will be asked to remediate
Staff Appreciation
Susanna
• Recommendation is to have the event catered this year during parent teacher
interviews as often difficult to get donations from busy families and we are only
having one staff appreciation meal this year.
• Susanna presented a proposal to go with Bubba Q catering. They are able to
provide a Texan barbeque meal for 100 staff within our proposed budget of
$1000.00 and have catered other school appreciation dinners. Beverages and
dessert will be extra.
• Parent / Teacher interviews will be on Monday April 25, 12:00 – 8:00 p.m.
