Snapshot of Year 1
Date: 12th May 2017
What we are learning
English: This week in English we wrote our Gruffalo story! We learned how to write stories in
our own words and had loads of fun writing the whole story!
Can you say the story in your own words?
Maths: This week in Maths we looked at 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.
How many sides does a pentagon have? How many faces does a cube have?
Project Based Learning: This week we looked at pollarded trees! We learned what it means to
pollard a tree and why people do it.
Can you remember why people pollard trees?
Science: This week in Science we looked at different parts of a plant. We looked at different
vegetables then labelled a plant. We also checked up on our bean plants!
What part of a plant is broccoli?

Handwriting
Handwriting is a crucial element of writing in Year 1. Children are required to form their letters
correctly using one continuous movement and sit them all neatly on the lines.
