IMPLEMENTING RISK MANAGEMENT IN COMPLIANCE WITH
THE LAW
Lecturers: Prof. Christian Johner, Johner Institute
Armin Gärtner, Ingenieurbüro für Medizintechnik
The main regulatory requirement for the manufacturers and operators
of medical products is that such products must be safe and that any
possible risks must be acceptable when compared with their benefits.
What sounds simple proves to be difficult to implement in everyday
situations:
• How are the benefits determined?
• How should user errors be dealt with?
• What comes within the manufacturer’s scope of responsibilities,
and within that of the operator?
• How are risks identified systematically?
• When and how must an operator conduct risk management,
in what areas, and what practical steps must be taken?
This workshop is intended to show you, as a manufacturer or as an
operator, the stages in risk identification, thereby enabling you to make
decisions regarding their acceptance and about measures for coping
with risks. It also explains how to compile documentation in conformity
with standards and legal requirements. The lecturers not only represent
the viewpoints of manufacturers and operators but also show how
both can work together to achieve their objectives, as well as allocating
responsibilities. Practical tips, including those on documentation, are a
feature of the workshop.
This will enable you to improve risk management in your company and
to avoid contravening regulatory and legal requirements.

REQUIREMENT ANALYSIS FOR SOFTWARE SYSTEMS
Lecturers: Prof. Oliver J. Bott, University of Applied Sciences and
Arts Hanover; Thomas Geis, ProContext Consulting GmbH
Prof. Christian Johner, Johner Institute
Requirements engineering in software projects means identifying
foreseeable requirements as soon as possible in the sense of “must
be discussed now“ and, during the course of the project, accurately
specifying (at the time they are needed) all the requirements that could
not be clearly defined at the start of the project (can be discussed later).
This workshop explains this process in a practical way, documenting it,
neither too little nor too much.
The workshop is intended for project managers, business analysts,
product managers, user researchers and requirements engineers as well
as all those engaged in projects in a practical capacity and who have or
want to have a say in the analysis of requirements. You will be shown
how requirements can be systematically identified and structured, so
that everyone involved in the project can understand what is intended
(even two days after something has been formulated). Practical templates
will be used that can be deployed in one’s own projects.

(KH-IT); Simone Heckmann, Geyfra GmbH; Dr. Rüdiger Pryss,
University Ulm; Dr. Winfried Schlee, University Regensburg; Sandra
Schmitt, InterComponentWare AG; Chrysanth Sulzberger und
Manuel Studer, imito AG
The aim of the seminar is to show the process from the development to
the use of mobile systems and applications for various user groups, and
to pass on practical experience. Aspects such as the integration with
existing systems (stand-alone to in-depth integration), communication
and the representation of data (proprietary to standards-compliant with
FHIR, HL7, DICOM, IHE) as well as authentification and regulatory framework conditions (data protection, MPG) will be dealt with in detail.
The end result should be to enable participants to plan mobile solutions,
identify requirements and evaluate the benefits for their own problem
and/or facility. Academy language: German (no translation)

SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION AND OPERATION OF PDMS
FOR ICU AND ANAESTHESIA
Lecturers: Cornelia Vosseler, Vosseler Consulting
Sebastian Behnisch, Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin
Dr. Markus Creutzenberg, Regensburg University Hospital
Matthias Kloos, Katholischer Hospitalverbund Hellweg/Marienkrankenhaus Soest
Hans-Werner Rübel, Rübel Consulting & Project Management
Patient data management systems are being used increasingly in intensive care wards, in intermediate care, stroke units, emergency rooms,
OP etc.; i.e. in clinical areas where continuous monitoring of patients
takes place and where large volumes of data are processed. PDMSs can
now be economically deployed, supporting medical and organisational
processes, rapidly making information about treatment processes
available and improving the quality of patient care. Nowadays almost
all the PDMSs that are commercially available are medical products.
Consequently the clinic, as the operator, has to comply with numerous
directives.
The introduction of a PDMS in a clinic is a project encompassing various
professional groups and departments and involves physicians, nursing
staff, the IT department, medical technology, controlling and accounting.
Irrespective of the manufacturer, the seminar will describe what factors
need to be considered during the introductory process in order to achieve
smooth implementation (Rübel Consulting & Project Management).
Last year risk management for the ICM from Dräger was introduced at
the Unfallkrankenhaus (Emergency Hospital) Berlin. Mr. Behnisch reports
on the experiences gained in setting up the risk matrix, as well as on the
initial results of its implementation.
Two clinics, Universitätsklinikum Regensburg and Marienkrankenhaus
Soest, will describe the successful introduction process and several years
of routine operation of two different PDMS systems, from a medical and
an IT viewpoint and taking into consideration the Medical Product Law.
