UNIT PLAN Grade Level: Unit #: Unit Name: K5 7A Measurement Big Idea/Theme: Mathematical processes are used to understand measurement concepts in everyday activities. Culminating Assessment: “Show Me the Money” Teacher will work with students in small groups. Provide each student with real coins, a play dollar bill, and a sorting mat (included). Students will first sort coins based on attributes and place them under the correct coin name. After they have sorted, students will write the coin values to match. Teacher will complete rubric after observing students for success. Unit Understanding(s) Students will understand that…. Different coins and bills exist and have different values. Coins and bills have different attributes. Unit Essential Question(s): What are the names, attributes, and values of different coins? What are the attributes and value of a dollar bill? Students will know… / Students will be able to… Identify and sort a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and a dollar bill based on its attributes. Identify the value of a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and a dollar. South Carolina Academic Standards: K-1.1 Apply substantive mathematical problem solving strategies.
