Jump Rope for Heart Peebles Elementary School Health and Physical Education DONATE ONLINE = www.heart.org/jump Dear Parents/Guardians: February is American Heart month and here at Peebles Elementary we are getting ready to hold a Jump Rope for Heart event to raise funds for the American Heart Association. This event offers many benefits. First the money our school raises will help fund potentially lifesaving research into heart and blood vessel disease and stroke, our nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 causes of death (which touches so many of our lives). It will also fund the development of educational materials that teach the importance of heart health and staying fit. Our school also earns gift certificates for physical education equipment (With our tight budgets, this comes in handy!) Jump Rope for Heart will benefit your child, too. Besides being fun it teaches jump rope skills and the importance of physical activity and community service. Depending on the amount of contributions collected, your child will be eligible for a variety of thank-you gifts. Grades 1-5 will be participating in the jump-a-thon event. Kindergarten will participate in a special event during their regular class time (look for a separate note soon). Wear a Jump rope T-shirt, the color RED or your NA Black and Gold on jump rope day! Jump –a– thon – Save the date 1st-5th grade = Monday February 27th The Jumping fun will begin at 9:30 a.m. Each grade level will have a one-hour time block in which they will come to the gymnasium and jump. The schedule is as follows Gr-1 9:30-10:30, Gr-4 10:30-11:30, Gr-5 11:3012:30, Gr-3 1:15 -2:15, Gr-2 2:15-3:15. Everyone is welcome to attend during your child’s time slot to jump, turn ropes or just watch the fun (bring a camera)! During the weeks preceding the event the children will prepare in Physical Education class. Mr. Jackson will also explain to the children how to get donations and fill out the envelopes. Collection envelopes are attached to this letter. Please ask your children to collect donations when the sponsor signs the envelope. This will eliminate a second visit to the sponsor’s home. Checks should be made out to the American heart Association. We do not recommend children collect donations from a stranger's home but instead from family, relatives, work places, and close friends. Online can also be easy go to http://www.heart.org/jump for more information, you can create your own web page and send out emails to family and friends (this is a great way to use technology with kids). Work places may also offer a matching gift program e.g. if your child raises $30 your workplace will match this with $30. Although not mandatory each child is asked to help in donating monies for the American heart Association. Donation envelopes should be returned to school on or before the jump-a-thon. A list of prizes is also available for you to look at on the back of the donation envelope. We appreciate your cooperation to make this day a success. Yours Healthfully Mr. Christopher Jackson. Health and Physical Education Instructor. We are looking for volunteers to help with counting donation envelopes on the jump-athon day. Please email me or send a note if your able to help. Any amount of time is very much appreciated. [email protected]
