Global mobility is
our driving force
We at Continental are globally recognized for keeping our
competitive edge as a customer-focused organization, and for our
passion in providing high-quality solutions. We are committed to
grooming technically competent, broad-minded and well-trained
engineers who have a firm and proficient grasp of technology
advancements, know-how transfers and global project
management skills.
In July 2012 Continental Automotive
Singapore Pte Ltd unveiled its new Research
& Development (R&D) center in Singapore.
Located along Boon Keng Road, the
facility is one of Continental’s largest R&D
headquarters in Asia dedicated to the design
and development of in-car information
management systems.
With more than 30 years of engineering
history and a highly skilled international
team, Continental Automotive Singapore is
well placed to meet the growing demand
for automotive engineering capabilities
worldwide, especially in Asia. The extension
of Continental’s R&D network to Singapore
provides the anchor from which the
company is able to expand its presence and
gain a strong foothold in the region.
Adhering to the highest quality standards, the
new facility drives the full product creation
process from conception to realization to
mass production. Continental’s wide range
of products include instrumentation clusters
and displays, multimedia and telematic
devices, radio navigation devices, central
input devices, interior modules, body control
modules and seat comfort systems.
The Singapore R&D facility currently holds
all four Interior Division Business Units,
marketing and sales staff from the ContiTech
Division, as well as employees from the
Tire Division, who oversee the purchase of
natural rubber for Continental’s Tire and
ContiTech plants worldwide. Continental
Singapore also accommodates the Interior
Electronics Solutions team, who plays a
central function in supporting the Business
Units across Interior Division, through crossBU Integration products.

A Company With Tradition
Founded in Hanover, Germany in 1871,
Continental is today a leading automotive
supplier worldwide. Continental’s five
divisions – Chassis & Safety, Powertrain,
Interior, Tires and ContiTech – are spread
across nearly 300 locations globally.
Continental employs approximately 189,000 people in 49 countries.
Forging New Ground

Continental in Singapore:
Forging New Ground
Continental’s emphasis will be on maintaining its orientation towards
becoming a global business through a lean business structure.
Singapore’s excellent infrastructure, strong
government support and talented workforce are
key factors that drew Continental to set up its R&D
operations here in 2012. The facility in Singapore
is envisioned as a major R&D engineering core for
Continental, regionally and internationally. It houses
a specialized automotive product verification and
validation center, a reliability test laboratory, and test
car space for in-vehicle R&D activities.
In a world where instrumentation and technology
plays an increasing role in driver operability,
connectivity and safety, it is important to have the
necessary facilities and creative manpower to bring
these technologies together for the car of the future.
Continental Singapore consists of R&D
administrative offices from all four Business Units
of the Interior Division, namely Instrumentation &
Driver HMI, Infotainment & Connectivity, Body &
Security and Commercial Vehicles & Aftermarket. It
also contains the ContiTech Division, Tires Division,
and Interior Electronics Solutions.
In 2014, Continental Singapore invested in a new
R&D Extension building and now boasts a total
floor space of 16,250 square meters, occupied by
approximately 1,300 employees.
More than 70 percent of Continental’s employees
are currently involved in software, hardware and
mechanical engineering roles, and there are plans to
further expand its staff capacity. This is a reflection
of Continental’s commitment to recruiting local
talent and developing expertise in collaboration with
its international teams.
Seeking to tap on Singapore’s talent pool,
Continental is already sponsoring final-year student
projects at various educational institutions. Talented
students are often hired thereafter. Continental
will also continue to focus on developing the skills
of its employees through its Talent Management
Program. This initiative was launched with the aim of
bolstering staff career prospects.
As a leading global player in developing innovative
solutions for the car of tomorrow, Continental
is committed to Singapore in developing its
capabilities as a leading R&D hub for the design
and development of automobile electronics and
technologies.
A Company With Quality

A Company With Quality
Automobile manufacturers and car drivers worldwide can expect Continental’s
products to be of the highest quality and uncompromising reliability. This has
always been a core competitive advantage of Continental, which commits to
combining product quality and manufacturing reliability on the one hand, with
environmental protection and the protection of employees, on the other.
The company aims not only to maintain existing standards and
guidelines, but as a Tier 1 manufacturer with a strong reputation
and a long heritage worldwide, it is also Continental’s stated
goal to raise the quality bar even higher in every aspect and
with all the power at its disposal.
A zero error rate is not merely a future vision, but a tangible
goal, as continuous improvement is actively championed in
production and other aspects of the company. This is achieved
through a common understanding of quality, determined in
Continental’s quality policy - “Our Global Quality Understanding”:
Customer Satisfaction
We know that quality is crucial to our customers’ satisfaction
and therefore to our business success. We are committed to a
target of zero defects.

Quality First Initiative
With these global guiding principles as its driving force, Continental Singapore
also launched its own quality program, the ‘Quality First’ Initiative, in which
there are six pillars containing more specific and characteristic values to the
R&D operations in Singapore. These six pillars include:
Projects – G80
Green
Processes – Standardized
We achieve G80 green status by passing every
PLC-Gate with effective application of Project
Management.
We increase productivity by effective usage
of the standardized PLC@SGP and continuous
improvement of our processes.
Products – Robust
Production –
Design
Safe Launch
We achieve robust design by applying failure
prevention measures, performing design reviews and
learning from every single incident.
We achieve stable series production by defining safe
launch activities and ensuring close co-operation
between R&D and the manufacturing plants.
Partners – Development
People – Quality
We assure our quality through early supplier
involvement in product design and usage of
qualified components by G70.
We secure our success with people committed to
quality by adopting a Zero-Defect mind-set.
The ‘Quality First’ mind-set applies to every
employee in Singapore and was proactively
implemented. By executing these six pillars,
Continental Singapore was able to optimize the
quality of products, processes and services, and in
turn, achieve better customer satisfaction.
