Candidates: I will.
[Scoutmaster]: Scouts also live by another code: it is the Scout Oath or Promise. The Scout Oath
describes three duties that every scout must accept: his duty to God and Country, his duty to other
people, and his duty to himself. I want you to publicly for the first time repeat this oath as the PL lights
3 candles to represent these 3 duties. Please raise your right hand in the Scout sign.
[Patrol Leader]: Repeat each part of the Scout Oath after me because it's your oath, your promise to live
the life of a Scout.

it describes, and do you pledge yourself to learn and follow the Scout Oath?
Candidates: We do.
[Scoutmaster]: Very well. We began in almost total darkness. Now in the light of these candles, we can
see one another well. So it is that the spirit of the scout oath and Scout Law lights your steps.
I direct your attention to the flag of the United States. As Scouts, we have special feelings about that
flag. We learn what it means, we learn to take care of it. We love and honor the nation it represents. I
now ask you to face the flag and pledge allegiance to it.
Candidates: (Recite the pledge)
[Patrol Leader]: Candidates, please turn around and face the troop.
We welcome you as Scouts and new members of Troop 164.
