C A F C B t uilding irst ation ommunities ne usiness t a ime William Ray Rogers December 27, 1933 - August 26, 2008 On Tuesday, August 26, 2008 Mr. William “Ray” Rogers, Elder, Former Chief and serving Councillor of Aamjiwnaang was called home by the Creator at the age of 74 years. Ray passed on peacefully at Bluewater Health Palliative Care, Sarnia. His warm smile and gentleness will be missed by family, friends and colleagues. Dearly loved husband of 50 years to Carolyn Joyce (Williams) Rogers. Loving father of Stephanie Rogers, Janice Rogers-Feather and Vicky (Tim) Barnier. Proud and loving Grampa of Jillian, Jacob and Abigail. Dear brother of Jacqueline Colagouri and brother-in-law to Muriel J. Rogers. Predeceased by parents Fred and Edna (Rodd) Rogers, his twin Leslie Roy, brothers and sisters Maynard, Buddy, Dorothy, Hilda (Lloyd) Williams, Genevieve (Reginald) George, Rita (Everett) Maness, Barbara (Freeman) Wright and Judy Maness. Cherished by many relatives, nieces, and nephews both far and near. Born and raised in Aamjiwnaang, William“Ray” Rogers served as Chief for 16 years, is a member of the Band Council, serving for 40 years, and served in the U.S. Air Force. He currently serves as President of the First Nations Veterans Association of Canada. He played a very significant role in moving the community through spiritual, social, cultural, and economic growth. Most recently, Ray had served on the Board of Directors, representing the London District Chiefs Council, from November 6, 2001 until his untimely passing.
