Charter schools are public schools. Charter schools are required to meet state accreditation requirements. Sharpen the Saw (habit of renewal) After School Program Afterschool care program hours: 3:45-5:30 pm Afterschool program is provided with a $4 charge per day. A snack is provided. Late payments will be charged a $20 late fee according to the after school care agreement. Further action will be taken for students not picked up at 6:00 pm. Morning Arrival Drop off will take place at the glass doors. Breakfast time is 7:30-7:55 am. Breakfast is free to our students. Students will not be served breakfast after this time. Students must be in their classroom by 8:00 am. Any students not in class by 8:00 am will be considered tardy. Instructional time starts at 8:00 am. Morning Arrival Drop off at the front glass doors will be shut down at 7:55 am. Any students arriving after will need to enter the campus through the magnetic door by the playground. Tardy students must report to the office upon arrival. Attendance (Full Policy on pg. 11) PEIMS Clerk: Ms. Adela Garcia Texas Education Code: Students must attend school 90% of the school year. Written notification is provided if students are out more than 10 days per semester. Students are required to stay home for contagious conditions including: chicken pox, ringworm, pinkeye, or fever. Other conditions may arise. Absences Notes must be submitted from either a parent or a doctor when a student is absent. Notes must always be submitted for absences even if you called to notify the school. Notes are required for documentation purposes. Only 4 parent notes are permitted per semester. Include: Student Name Grade Days missed Reason for absence Parent signature & contact information Absences Attendance notes must be turned in to the front office. Excused Absence Reasons: School related activities Illness with a note (3 days or more requires a doctor’s note) Family illness in immediate family Family Emergency in immediate family Religious holidays with prior approval Doctor’s appointments Absences Traffic, waking up late, car and transportation problems are not considered excused. Absences remain unexcused until a note is provided. Parents are given a 2-day grace period. If a note is not received the absence will remain unexcused. Tardy & Early Pickups Students are considered tardy if they arrive to school after 8:00 am. Students must be in class by 8:00 am. Early Pickups must be signed out in the front office. Students may return after medical appointments with a doctor’s note. Students may not be picked up 30 minutes before dismissal. Students will not be released after 2:30 pm. Birthday Celebrations Permitted only on Fridays the last 30 minutes of the day. Celebrations may be arranged with your child’s teacher. Snacks must be store bought with a label. Any visitors must have a clear background check on file. Background checks must be renewed each year. School staff are not permitted to distribute invitations. Dress Code Uniforms are mandatory and must be worn year round. Length of all attire must be deemed appropriate by school staff. Skin tight attire and skinny pants/ jeggings are not allowed. Shirts must be tucked in at all times for all grades. Belts must be worn in 2nd – 5th grades. Belts must be black or brown and must be smooth with a plain buckle. Tennis shoes and dress shoes are considered appropriate. No sandals or platform shoes. Uniform Patches Uniform Patches are available for $7. Cash only please. Dress Code: Hair Guidelines Boys: Hair must be clean and neat. It must be tapered around the ear and back of the head. Hair must be cut short in front and cannot hang over their eyebrows. Hair must be at collar length from the top of the collar. Longer hair is unacceptable. NOT ALLOWED: Dress Code: Jewelry & Makeup Only two traditional earrings are allowed to be worn on the ear lobe. Makeup items is not allowed in school and can only be worn in moderation. Body piercings and facial piercings are not allowed. This includes gauges, plugs, spacers, ear stretching accessories, or bones. The school is not responsible for any lost, broken, or stolen items. Allowed Not Allowed College Day: Fridays Students must pay $1 at the school entrance in order to participate. Students who do not pay will need to change into their uniform before being allowed to proceed to class. College day attire must be deemed appropriate by school staff. No sandals or platforms are allowed. Belts must be worn. Shirts must be tucked in and can be worn with jeans. No Jerseys. Lunch Free School Lunch Program PreK Lunch: 10:15-10:45 am Kinder Lunch:1st: 10:30-11:00 am 2nd-3rd Lunch: 11:10-11:40 4th-5th Lunch: 11:50-12:20 PreK Snack: 1:15-1:30 Kinder & 1st Snack: 2:00-2:15 Dismissal Time is 3:15 pm. Afterschool care begins at 3:45 pm. Any students not picked up by 3:45 pm will be charged $4 per day for afterschool care. Dismissal numbers must be displayed everyday in order for your child to be released through the drive line. Dismissal numbers will be distributed during Meet the Teacher night. Meet the Teacher night is superhero night at Destiny Leadership Academy! Students are encouraged to attend in their superhero attire! Meet the Teacher Night August 11, 2016 6:00 pm Teachers will be sharing information pertaining to their classroom procedures, rules, and expectations.
