Superstitions
By: Bella Kulacz
Do you have a lucky “something” that you have to do before
you will parcipate in a certain acvity or sport? Many people have
supersons, and some are cool, weird, or just plain ridiculous
supersons. If you have ever walked under a ladder and considered
it bad luck, crossed your fingers, or knocked on wood, you believe in
supersons! Some other supersons are believing that Friday the
13th is scary, or believing that a horseshoe that is right-side up is
good luck. Some people believe that when your le) hand itches,
money is coming your way, and others believe that black cats are
bad luck. If you say “God bless you” a)er someone sneezes, that is
considered a superson; and if you break a mirror, some people
might say that you will have seven years of bad luck. Do you have
any strange supersons?

Movie Review: A Dog’s Purpose
By : Katelyn Bolton
Some people think a dog is truly a man’s best friend, but a man’s best friend is
truly his dog. In the movie “A Dog’s Purpose” a dog, soon to be named Bailey, was found left
in a car in the hot summer months. A boy named Ethan and his mother found him in the car
and broke him out of it; if he had been left in the car he would have died. Once the dog was
out of the car and able to drink some water, the boy and the dog soon became the best of
friends. After begging and trying to persuade his father to keep the dog, his father finally lets
Ethan keep the dog. Ethan decides to name the dog Bailey, and Bailey is always with Ethan
everywhere he goes for many years. Finally when Bailey comes to an old age, it is time to
put him down. It is hard for Ethan and his family to put him down, but it is needed because
the dog was tired and was getting sick. Once the dog was put down, Bailey came back as
another dog, and then another dog, and then another dog until he finally came back to meet
up with his old owner again. He was trying so hard to find Ethan and prove to him that he is
the same dog that he had been when Ethan was little. Once he finds Ethan, he is really not
the person Bailey knew. Will Bailey be able to prove to Ethan he is the same dog? Will Ethan
go back to the same person he was? Go to the movies and see this awesome and heartwarming movie about a dog and his best friend.

An Autobiography of Davey Crockett
Review by: Mikey Griffith
The autobiography of Davy Crockett tells the tale of a larger-than-life legend of the wild frontier. Known as the “King of the Wild Frontier” Davy always wanted to be on an adventure. He
ran away when he was five. He eventually returned and got married. He fought in a war
against the Creek Indians. His wife died, so he remarried and then became a part of Congress. He was elected many times but voted against Andrew Jackson and lost when the
election was supposedly rigged against him. He became fed up with the country and left for
Texas. At that time, Texas was trying to break away from Mexico. General Sam Houston
needed time to form an army. Davy agreed to defend the Alamo. After 13 days, and no reinforcements coming to their aid, the Alamo fell and Davy was killed. Davy was hailed as a
hero around the country. He still influences our everyday lives with the stories of his bravery
and outdoorsmanship.

Stop, Drop and Roll
Review by: Jake Fada
Stop, Drop, and Roll, by Margery Cuyler, is a very interesting book. Not only
does it have a good storyline, but it teaches a good lesson, too. The book has
well-drawn pictures, and I think it is easy to understand. If you want to
learn about fire safety, this is the book for you!

All in This Together!
By: Maya Blanden and Lucy Rothgery
We’ve visited the St. Jude’s Drama Club practices and have interviewed the actors and actresses.
Here’s what we’ve learned:
Eve Jursinski is in the eighth grade. She says that they need to work like a team and come
together as one. Eve would like the audience to appreciate all of the hard work and time the cast and
crew put into this production. They are ready to keep the crowd entertained! Actors and stage crew need
to remember to stay hydrated and be confident, everybody is important, and practice makes perfect! We
wish Eve good luck in the St. Jude Drama production.
We also interviewed Colin Willett. He is playing Ryan Evans, and it is his first big role in a St.
Jude production. Colin knows that this is a big commitment and is very important. His goals are to make
the crowd smile and make them feel good. Getting ready for this production, Colin is both nervous and
excited at the same time. He will be great in his role as Ryan Evans!
Next, we interviewed McKenna Grimes. She is new to big productions like this one, but so far
she is liking it and is happy to work with new people and get a chance to be in something this big. Her
goals are to put forth a lot of effort and have a good attitude about the play’s message. She and the other
members should always work together and try their best.
Last, but not least, we talked to Mrs. Kirkpatrick. She wants these talented students to be able
to get into character and feel confident. When doing a production like this, it is important for them to
practice. Most importantly, she wants the kids to have fun. And remember, we’re all in this together!

Focus on Feet!
There are many new sports shoes coming out
this Spring! Some of the shoes are signature shoes, and some
are a brand of shoe. Popular shoes that girls are wearing are
the Lebron Soldier Ten, Under Armour Clutch Fits, and the Kyrie 3’s and 2’s. Many people in school are wearing Jordans and
Jordan Retros. If you want to be really stylish, the Lebron Soldier 10’s are fashionable shoes. If you’d like to wear something
different, try the James Harden Vol. 1, the Kobe 11, or the Curry 3’s,. There are so many more, just too many to list! You can
definitely sport your own style by wearing a sport shoe this
Spring!

We’re going to to predict the teams that will play in the 2017 NBA
Playoffs! There are only eight teams in both the East and West that will make
the playoffs. The teams we think that will make it include the Cleveland Cavaliers, Raptors, Hawks, Celtics, Hornets, Pacers, Bulls, and the Knicks in the
East. For the West, we predict the Warriors, Thunder, Spurs, Clippers, Rockets,
Jazz, Grizzlies, and possibly the Trail Blazers will prevail.
As a little bonus, we’ll even predict the Finals! Now, a lot people think it’ll
be the Cavs vs. Warriors, but we think the Warriors might drop in the Playoffs. If
the Spurs or the Clippers are able to stay in the Playoffs, they might have a
chance at beating the Warriors. The final series would might look something like
this: Spurs or Clippers 4 games, and the Warriors, 3 games. But the Clippers
might drop, and then the Cavs will have to play the Spurs. The Spurs are very
good, so that would be a great championship series! No matter what, it will be
fun to see if these predictions come true!
Confirmation
Confirmation is the final Sacrament of Initiation in
the Catholic Church. Students go through a program
that explores what it means to make a faith
commitment and to accept the responsibilities of that
decision. So what do 8th graders at St. Jude School do to prepare for
Confirmation? 8th graders attend a series of meetings. Chris Phillips says
that he prays and does things to become the best version of himself. Bella
Kulacz and Maggie Clark say that they study, learn, and watch videos about
the sacrament. Katie Bolton says that she talks to her family, and that she
learns more about the meaning of the sacrament. Ashley Hoge studied about
Confirmation, went to a retreat, and went to mass. All of these 8th graders
prepared very hard for their next step on their Catholic journey! The 8th
graders Confirmed their faith and commitment to God and the Catholic
religion on February 21, 2017.

Thoughts on Quotes
By: David Griffiths
Our quote for this issue is “Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit
when there are footprints on the moon” by Paul Brandt..
We asked several members of the Jaguar Journal Staff what
these words mean to them. Ben McDonough thinks it means
that anything is possible, keep working toward your goals and
they can come true. A.J. Farley said “You can do anything you
want if you are determined.” Jake Fada believes it means that
if you work hard and you are determined, you can achieve
your goals, and can achieve anything.

Bishop Thomas
by: Maggie Clark
If any of you have been paying attention in Mass lately (we are sure you
have), you’ve probably noticed that instead of referring to Bishop
Lennon during the General Intercessions, our priest has referred to
Bishop Daniel. Bishop Richard Lennon has retired from his position as
Bishop, and he will be truly missed. He has done great things for the
Cleveland Diocese and has shown all of us what it’s like to walk in
God’s light at times of darkness. Our interim bishop, Daniel, is actually
from the Toledo Diocese and is going to be our temporary bishop until
Pope Francis appoints a new one. That’s right, our Holy Father, the
spiritual leader of the whole entire Catholic Church, is going to be
paying attention to our Diocese in Cleveland, Ohio, as he decides who
he wants to lead our Diocese. We pray for the best for Pope Francis as
he makes this decision and can’t wait to see who he brings to lead our
Diocese!
