1 February 2016 Suffragette (12A) 106mins (Drama)
Cary Mulligan, Helena Bonham-Carter, Meryl Streep, Anne-Marie Duff and Romola
Garai. One of the most eagerly awaited films of the year. A drama that tracks the
story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced
underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly
brutal State. These women were not just from the genteel educated classes; there
were also working women. Radicalized and turning to violence as the only route to
change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality - their jobs, their
homes, their children and their lives. Maud (wonderfully played by Carey Mulligan)
was one such foot soldier. The story of her fight for dignity is as gripping and visceral
as any thriller, it is also heart-breaking and inspirational. Meryl Streep has such a
powerful cameo as Emmeline Pankhurst.
7 March 2016 Brooklyn (12A) 111mins (Drama)
An Irish immigrant lands in 1950s Brooklyn, where she quickly falls into a new
romance. When her past catches up with her, however, she must choose between
two countries and the lives that exist within. Terrific cast (the estimable Saoirse
Ronan, Domnhall Gleeson, Julie Walters and Jim Broadbent) in Nick Hornby’s
adaptation of the best-seller by Colm Toibin. Brooklyn is one of those rare films
that’s written, acted and directed with such elegance, it never gets boring or
disengaging. One of the hits of the Sundance Festival in 2015, it is a film of grace and
beauty and Saoirse Ronan’s central performance is of Oscar quality.
4 April 2016 The Lady in the Van (U) 104mins (Comedy)
Little needs to be said: Alan Bennett’s stage play filmed with Maggie Smith in the
title role, supported by a wealth of UK treasures - not least Alex Jennings as Bennett
himself and a roll call of rep players from other Bennett vehicles such as ‘History
Boys’. Everyone is going to want to see this - for a second time
even if they have seen it in the cinema.

Pre-school set to double
School Lane Pre-school is set to double its capacity
thanks to plans to extend the building. This £80,000
project funded by Sprowston Town Council will
mean the nursery can cater for 24 more little ones
per session.
The new extension will create a separate room,
which allows teaching to be targeted to different age
groups.
Pre-School Chairman Sue Harper said “This is a
major step forward for the school and will give us that
much needed extra space to cater for more families.”
Council Chairman Ian Moncur said: “as with any
pre-school, we
wanted to make
sure the children
that use it get
access to the best possible educational facilities, and
it will certainly offer that. With a strong demand for
places this development will be very welcome.”
The pre-school provides education for children
aged two and older following the Early Years
Foundation Stage. Based at Sprowston Diamond
Centre, the school was rated as 'good and
outstanding' during its last Ofsted inspection.

New facility
to open at
Sprowston
an improved experience
Recreation
for players...
Ground to boost ‘grassroots’ sport
A new high quality changing room facility will be officially opened on 12 February 2016 at
Sprowston Pavilion, thanks to a £105,000 in grants from the Premier League and The FA
Facilities Fund, which provides grants towards developing new or refurbished grassroots
football facilities, and The Veolia Environmental Trust through the Landfill Communities
Fund (LCF), the Council also awarded £35,000.
The grant has enabled the Town Council to refurbish the two existing changing rooms and provide three
additional changing rooms with one dedicated to match officials and will allow for multiple matches to take place
on the Recreation Ground at any one time. The Town Council worked in partnership with the Norfolk County
FA to secure a £70,000 grant from the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund.
The Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund is funded by the Premier League, The FA and the Government,
via Sport England. It is delivered by the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity. Since it was
launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 14,000 grants worth more than £540m towards improving
grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £777m – over £1.3bn of
investment into the grassroots game. By providing more high-quality facilities, coupled with coaching at the
appropriate age group, the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund aims to improve the experience for regular
players as well as attracting new players to the game.
The Veolia Environmental Trust awarded a grant of £35,000 through the LCF. The Trust was set up in 1997 and
since then Veolia has supported it by contributions of over £65 million to 2003 projects. The Trust has helped
fund a diverse range of projects, including the repair of woodland footpaths, the renovation of community halls
and the installation of playgrounds and play areas.
The Trust awards its grants through the LCF, and a tax credit scheme set up in 1996. Since then over £1.3 billion
has been spent on more than 51,000 projects across the UK. For further information visit www.entrust.org.uk or
see HMRC’s general guide to Landfill Tax.

Sprowston Matters
continued from front page
Many of the new state-of-the-art facilities will serve to strengthen the connection between professional football
clubs and their local communities, particularly in the most deprived areas of the country, through the professional
clubs’ community trusts’ outreach work.
Sprowston Town Council Chairman Ian Moncur said: “bringing
more sports facilities to Sprowston has been a long aim of mine
and having grown up locally I am particularly aware of the need for
these additional amenities.”
Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “I am delighted that a grant from the Premier
League and The FA Facilities Fund has enabled Sprowston Town Council to upgrade the Sprowston Pavilion.
This development will provide a real boost to sport in the local area. Since 2000, the Football Foundation has
supported grassroots projects worth more than £1.3 billion, investing into areas where the need is greatest and
where it will have the biggest impact in terms of getting more people playing football and a wide range of other
sports.
Cemetery extension Chairman picks lucky
winners
Landscaping continues at the cemetery with our
grounds men planting 85 specimen trees including
Acers, Birch, Willow, Cherry and Oak. Roadways
and paths have been laid and most of the developed
area has been seeded but weather has postponed
further sowing.
The next stage is to plant the perimeter with
native hedging which has been carefully selected to
encourage wildlife. The ponds, used to help drain
the site, will be left to fill up naturally and it is hoped
they will also attract a wider range of species. This
phase of the extension is being prepared for future
use when the existing cemetery becomes full.
At the last Council meeting of 2015, Chairman Ian
Moncur picked out two lucky winners each to receive
a £50 Marks and Spencer’s Voucher in time for a
Christmas treat.
Questionnaires were delivered to households in
Sprowston and available on-line, to find out if residents
supported the Council’s desire to build a sports and
community hall with changing facilities at Sprowston
Diamond Centre. To apply for funding the Council
must show that the local community wants, and would
use, such a facility and the survey was used to establish
this. Those residents who expressed a view wanted
indoor tennis courts, badminton courts and larger
spaces for a variety of sporting activities, and these
returned questionnaires were entered into a prize
draw. This information will now be used when applying
for grants to fund the development.
“With this funding, provided by the Premier League, The FA and the Government, through Sport England, we are
helping to improve community sports facilities across the country and thereby the playing experience of those
who take part. This latest project in Sprowston is the latest addition to the inventory of modern community
sports sites we are developing that cater for the needs of local people who want to play sport purely for the love
if it and to stay healthy.”
Winner Mr Duncan Brown of Corbet Avenue said:
“having recently retired he looked forward to seeing
more facilities in Sprowston.”
The Executive Director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Paul Taylor, added, “since 2002 we have awarded
a total of over £932,000 to 32 projects in Norfolk. It is great to hear that this new facility will be opened
in February. The project is an excellent example of how the Trust and the LCF can help support sport at a
grassroots level.”
Residents are invited to attend this opening event & view our new facilities.
The Pavilion will be open between 11am and 2pm - Friday 12 February 2016
