for people in recovery
A guide to geng ready for
in-house delivery by your staff
The Cerficate in Self Coaching is an SQA credit rated
course at SCQF level 5 suitable for people at all stages
of recovery to help develop self awareness and
introduce self management tools based on recovery
capital.
The Cerficate in Recovery Coaching is SQA credit
rated at SCQF level 7, suitable for people in stable
recovery who are ready to start supporng others in
recovery using this life coaching approach.
Entry to the Cerficate in Recovery Coaching requires
compleon of the Cerficate in Self Coaching.
Comas trainer delivery to your groups
Comas trainers can be commissioned to run both courses to your groups. We use a lead trainer and
assistant trainer to ensure that assessment can be integrated into course delivery.
This approach is ideal if you want to pilot the course and get feedback from your staff and service users.
The courses can be delivered in any format that suits your needs.
•
The Cerficate in Self Coaching requires a minimum of 16 hours course delivery, ideally over at least
four sessions.
•
The Cerficate in Recovery Coaching requires a minimum of 16 hours course delivery with a follow
up session of 6-8 hours (depending on size of group) for final assessment. Prior to the follow up
sessions parcipants will need to complete 12 hours of pracce coaching with people in recovery.
Becoming an approved centre for in-house delivery
The opmum approach to delivering these courses and enabling people to gain the accreditaon is by
tailoring the learning opportunies to the different needs of your groups.
In parcular, the Cerficate in Recovery Coaching may be best delivered to people in early recovery as a
series of short sessions integrated into a group work programme. This enhances the level of parcipaon
and discussion and ensures the pace is appropriate for people who may struggle with long periods of
concentraon. It also enables more a0enon to people with addional support needs - all of the
assessments can be completed orally but this takes more me which can be accommodated when
delivering in-house.
Becoming a delivery centre is more cost effecve and enables you to tailor course delivery.
To become an approved centre, you will need:
•
Two staff members/volunteers who have undertaken both courses and our training for trainers
course - course delivery may be undertaken by one trainer whilst the other member of staff verifies
the assessments to ensure consistency of standards. It is a posive benefit if these trainers are in
recovery
•
Willingness to parcipate in a naonal or regional groups to share course development
•
Regular reviews of course delivery by an external verifier provided by Comas.
Becoming an approved centre - the process
Demonstraon delivery (Course 1: 6 x half day; Course 2: 2 x full days + one follow up day)
•
We deliver the courses in full to your group, which must include the staff/volunteers intended to
become trainers.
•
These demonstraon courses tend to be delivered more intensively within the shortest possible
period of me, so is not ideal for parcipants with a high level of addional needs.
•
All parcipants are assessed and will gain cerficates if they successfully complete assessments.
Acon Learning Set (3 x 3 hours)
•
We will provide regular acon learning sessions for your trainers as they complete the second
course (Cerficate in Recovery Coaching) to ensure they have a good depth of understanding of
coaching.
•
These may be provided with trainers from other organisaons in your area, as this enables you to
learn from others’ approach.
Course development consultancy session (3 hours)
•
If your organisaon is not already delivering accredited learning, we think it is worth spending some
me with your trainers and their line managers to discuss the actual administraon of the course
delivery in your centre, so that procedures are in place to ensure all candidates’ assessments are
logged and they can get their cerficates.
•
We also review policies and procedures with you, to ensure your approach to keeping candidate
data secure is in place, and to discuss your approach to dealing with complaints or appeals against
assessment decisions.
Training for trainers (2 x full days)
•
This is an intensive course which provides the ‘behind the scenes’ raonale for why things are
included in the programmes and how learners progress through the courses.
•
Trainers are introduced to new exercises and tools which we don’t use in the intensive
demonstraon delivery but which enable trainers to break courses up into session-by-session
delivery if this is your preferred method.
•
Trainers are introduced to assessment marking guidelines, enabling them to assess candidates.
•
We can also allow new trainers to shadow our own trainers on our course deliveries if this helps
their development and confidence.
Follow up visits during first 12 months of course delivery
•
We are available for telephone advice and for acon learning sessions to support new trainers to
make best use of the materials and resources, and resolve assessment issues.
•
We budget for up to two visits in the first year. More can be provided on a half day rate.
There is no limit on the number of candidates you can cerficate through your in-house courses. Comas
provides central administraon of cerficates for a small charge per course.
